Default Wire identification

Looking at the wiring harness that goes to the left(USA driver side) of the tail light, there is one wire that exits prior to the tail light plug that goes to an open grey socket. Anyone know what it is for?

I am installing aftermarket rear park sensors to look as OEM and when I finish I'll post pix and explanation.

With the ignition on check the plug for voltage. As weird as it may sound, Jaguar in the XK's and XJ's had a live plug in the boot for powering whatever you might like. Including a 12 volt beverage cooler.

hlgeorge, looking on the drawings, they are not very descriptive of what that wire goes to. Since I am reading what you typed as a single wire going into the corner of the trunk from the driver's (USA) side tail light, that would lead me to believe that it is some sort of connector for the audio equipment that can be there. With that being said, it is hard to say what it is for. Would you happen to have the wire insulation color(s) available. I need to know the main color wire and if there is any sort of stripe on the wire too. I can do some looking and maybe I can cross where this wire is coming from to give you an idea of whether it is useful or not.

Thanks Thermo. I will look soon. Would you happen to know the wire colour code for the reversing lamp at the tail lamp connector. Getting ready to up date with rear park sensors. (Wow the wiring in these cars is so small!)

Lew, the reverse wire is a green wire with a black stripe. It will be in slot 6 (second pin from one side of the plug). It is the same color wire for both sides of the car.

You may also find that there will be an unused plug in the spare wheel well that will have the green wire with a black stripe. That will also be the reverse light wire.

Nice! That wire could be the unused plug that I was inquiring about at first. I think the wire was green. Will have to check this out!!
