Default wood key?

I had another Jvegas idea! What about a woodgrain key fob? Made out of the same wood as the dash? It can't be that hard to carve such a thing and just take the guts out of the old key fob and put into the new wood one... what do you think?

Making the keyfob out of wood may not be a good idea. I say this only because you will have fairly small pieces of wood that will be forced to run against the grain. This is going to lead to something that will break pretty easy when any force is placed on it. I know it wouldn't survive more than about a week inside my pants pocket. Now, if you could make a piece that would slip over the current key fob (say 0.07" thick) and use the plastic underneath as a support, then you might be good to go.

well here is what i thought. If the key fob was carved out of two pieces and then coated with something on the inside to make it strong. then put the guts into it and glue the two parts togather.

go to a site about marquetry. i think that's how it's spelled. you can find wood veneer to match close or right on to your dash.if you fashion a similar fob and glue the venner to it you could have it. just my under valued american 2 cents worth. damn federal reserve.

Take the fob to a wood worker and see what he could do! Depending on the wood you use it could be more solid than the plastic itself. Especially once stained and varnished...here's the wood baby crib I made by hand...

JV, did you see the wooden key fobswith emblems located on this pageunder Key Chains:

http://britishautowood.com/gearknob.html

Contact Saul and ask him if he can custom make one for you like you want. If it can be done, he will do it. he can put a small screw in it tohold the sides together so you can stillseperate the two halves for changing the battery. Question is how much do you want to spend on it.

lmfao...you jag boys are nuts!

Uhhh, I'm not sure how you guys keep your keys, but mine goes in my pocket/ignition 99.9% of the time. Unless you plan to tape it to your forehead, I don't get it. [:'(]
