Your ABS is kicking in for some reason....maybe a bad wheel sensor or loose connection to one of the wheels, making the wheels appear to be locked up like in a skid ...Best to have something as important as your brakes checked by a qualified service tech.

Are you getting any dash lights - the engine light or the ABS light? Typically you will get one or both when an ABS fault occurs. Most of the time is is a broken tooth or teeth on the ABS tone ring.

You need a scan tool to read the fault code(s) and reset them. There is a good chance you have a bad rear ABS sensor ring. This is a common failure. It causes the ABS system to think one of the wheels is locked up. Find an auto parts store that will read the codes for you for free or find someone with a scan tool. With the fault code we will be able to give you more advice.

jagsv6-

now that you mention that, i got under the car a few days ago and on the rear driver side wheel, on that bar that spins the tire there was a metal ring with hole on it that was just dangaling loose around the bar. and i just took it off since it was justsliding back and forth on the bar.

can that be the ring you are talking about? or can that be the issue?

It is a safe bet, based on your description of the symptoms, that you are going to need to replace the ABS ring. Clearing the lights before you do that won't help with anything.

I had mine repaired by the dealer under warranty, however if you search this board you will probably find a fair amount of info, as JagXV6 indicated it is quite common.

YUP! That Was the ring!

Here is what you now need to read:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ht=outer+joint

You can not just replace the ring. You either have to have the outer CV joint replaced or the whole axle. (the round bar you saw the ring hanging on!) An axle goes for about $900 and an outer CV joint is about $150. I replaced the outer CV joint myself. I had a dealer tell me that outer joints were not available but that is BS. I just went to another dealer and got it. Sucks but that is the only way to fix the problem.

Oooo!
before the abs light came on, when i would be coming to a complete stop the brake peddle felt like i was trying to stop on snow or sand, and would sink a little and i would here something vibariting and like buzzing from the driver side front of the car, then after the light came on it stoped doing that.
so you guys think that was what caused it to do that?
and after i fix that, will the light turn off by itself?

thanks,

That is exactly what is causing the problem. Because there is no sensor ring there now, it thinks your left rear wheel is not turning/locked up. This activates the antilock braking system. The vibration/buzzing you hear and feel is the NORMAL operation of the ABS system. However it also detects that there is still something wrong in the system so it turns on the ABS, Check Engine, and DTS Unavailabe lights. You don't get the vibration/buzzing the next time you brake because the ABS system gets shut off due to the fault. If you shut the car off and start it back up, it resets the ABS system only for it to shut down the next time you try to stop. Sound what you are having??? BEEN THERE!

Fixing the sensor ring will reset all the lights. Is your speedometer working correctly? When the ring came off my axle the speedometer would only read like half speed. This does not always happens so don't worry if it does or doesn't. It will go away also after the cv joint is replaced. If you are not doing it yourself, just make sure they don't try to sell you a whole axle becuse it is not needed. The part number for just the outer CV joint is listed in my thread above--rup that in the dealerships face. Of course if you are under warrenty, let them put a new axle on!
