Is the steering wheel lock on the X type mechanical or electric, I can't find a good straight answer.

 

The steering lock itself is mechanical. It does not engage until the key is removed from the ignition. With the key inserted you should be able to rotate the steering wheel. With the key removed you can not rotate it.

 

Well the locking is mechanism, but I think Georgio question is it activated by electrical or by engaging by mechanical components.

 

Why not disconnect the battery and see what happens?

 

I recently was changing the upper radiator hose and needed to hard over the steering wheel for access to the screws on the inner wheel arch. With the battery disconnected the steering wheel was still MECHANICALLY locked. I had to unlock it with the key to turn the steering wheel.

 

So the key insert and turn to unlock the steering wheel without battery connect, that mean it was mechanical lock and unlock, but if you inserted the key and turn, if the wheel can not turn without battery connected, that's mean it was electrical activated. Period.
