X type front door latch stuck

In cold weather I am able to open the drivers door but cannot close it because of the latch sticking in wrong position in the door. This has happened a few times and resolved itself by manipulation of the latch. However, despite the weather improving I cannot move the latch to the open position allowing the door to close. Please help.
DrDee, I would try spraying the latch mechanism with a healthy dose of WD-40. You may have gotten a little bit of sand/dirt into the mechanism and it is binding it up. By getting a good bit of WD-40 into the latch, you can flush this stuff out. Keep in mind that what goes in, must come out. So, you may want to put a little bit of newspaper or other catch device under the door to catch what drips out. There are drains on the bottom of the door. You can see them if you look on the underside.

Hey DrDee....have you looked at the X type quick FAQ link thread? It will be worth checking out for sure

There's also a few discussions on door locks/ handles issues as well as a very good how to on removing the door card for a good look to see whats going on....
