X-type Jammed doorlocks
Hello everyone,
I am a Newbie and proud of it. I have a 2002 X-Type manual transmission 2.5Litre vehicle which has travelled 99,000 kms and is in really good nick.
I encountered a problem of a jammed lock in rear right door which could not be opened. I read multiple forum threads but none seemed to match the problem.
This is my story of solving the unsolvable.
Using remote could not unlock door. both inner and outer door handles moved normally but did not open or unlock the door.
Following good advices from this forum I was able to remove the inside liner's 2 screws without removing the rear seat. Then similarly removed the inner door (liner) card without too much damage. Released the inside door pull handle (cable) and then peeled back the black water / sound proof, unhooked the outer door push rod. using light and mirrors.
Still no change. pushed and pulled door from both sided, bumped it, tapped it, sprayed it, went inside and had one too many drinks for inspiration.
Went back to the forums and found a comment about removing the outer door handle surround. A lightbulb moment as my hands were red raw from scraping thru the narrow gaps on the inner door.
needed some right angle screw drivers to remove the inner 2 screws and removed the door handle and surround. Finally a good view of the door mechanism without using a mirror.
I saw 3 screws in the outer side of the mechanism. I unscrewed these and removed them carefully.
Then carefully pried 2-3 integral plastic spring clips, was able to pull the whole side of the mechanism away to see the inside moving parts. Care at this point as a spring will fly into Never Never land never to be seen again. The electric motor inside was easily removed and then the swing plate moved back and the lock was freed and I could open the door from in or outside. The motor appeared to have shorted out with lots of small rubble around the commutator and brushes. After cleaning the motor worked well again.
The lock works perfectly mechanically now but I still have to sort out the electrical circuit. Half way there.
I hope this has been of help to some with problems like me.
Regards
Alan
