X-type no power

X-type no power
I have searched all over for something on this so if it is a repeat, I am very sorry (but desperate). I have a 2004 x-type that has suddenly died. Yesterday the Gear box indicator came on after I pulled into the garage...no biggie I thought. I got in the car this morning and though it did crank for a moment, it would not go into gear at all. Tested the battery, 8% reading so we bought a new one...hooked it up, no power AT ALL. The inside light does not even come on. Can anyone offer anything?
Thanks in advance

Kat, first off, welcome to the Forums. I think you will find lots of very useful information here and lots of people willing to assist you. But, we do ask a small favor though. Please stop by the "New Member Section" and introduce yourself. We like to get to know one another and through this, you will find that it makes this place somewhere that you want to come back to.
As for your problem, based on what you are describing, you most likely have bad battery cables. You can pick up some generic battery cables at your local auto parts store and replace them yourself for very little money (about $40 and an hour or so of your time). If that is not it, then I would need to have you take a multimeter so we can determine where the power is being lost. How are you with using a multimeter or having someone that you trust come over with a multimeter?

Thank you Thermo for the direction about being a new user :-). Turns out the "new" battery was dead so once that was determined, all is good after another one was exchanged in it's place. I love this forum as there have been many questions I have had and I intend to drive this x-type until it is "un-drivable". I love this car and get so many compliments on it. Thanks again!!!
