x-type rumbling on start-up
Please help with any ideas. I am at my wits end with mechanics. Originally, the 2003 x-type would cut out, especially going up hills as if starved for fuel. A smoke check revealed that the upper and lower manifold gaskets would need to be replaced. It ran okay for a few weeks, then the problem returned. Then, the cutting out ended with the summer and the engine light came on. The mechanic did an oil change, spark plug replacement, and an ignition coil replacement since there were cylinder 3 and 5 misfires, and I had him replace the fuel filter. Now, the car rumbles on start up and will not pass inspection. What should I look for? This is the third mechanic to supposedly fix the problem and 4500 dollars later, it still isn't fixed. According to the post, should I look at the mass flow air sensor? It also does not have any power accelerating anymore, especially going up hill. It has 144,000 miles on it. I really don't want to take it to the jag dealer and my husband says take it to the junkyard but I love this car. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.
