X-Type Security System

X-Type Security System
Hello everybody!
I am a new owner of a 2002 X-Type 3.0 engine. I purchased the car at an auction, and the seller stated that the security light was on, and that was probably the problem. Car does not start, nor even crank. There is power to all the systems, but it does not start. There is a red light that is on in the center console, and it remains on (solid). The display shows Engine Fault, Transmission Fault and DSC fault when I try to start the car. Has anybody come across this problem before? I purchased this car because I love the Jaguar style, I just hope I can get it working without spending too much $$$. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Al

RE: X-Type Security System
Well, actually I just purchased a brand new battery for it.I am getting worried about the transmission fault coming on. Do you think it is because of the security system, or does it only come on when there is a problem with the tranny. In other words, if your car fails to come on, does the transmission fault light usually come on? Any help would be appreciated.

RE: X-Type Security System
Thanks! I bought it because I have always liked the Jaguar look. The purchase price was $5500.00. I don't think I want to deal withworking out these problems, so I may put it upfor sale if I cannot get somebody to reset the immobalization system for me soon. I bought it because I thought could disable the security system fairly easily, but it seems that I may have to take it to the dealer to get it corrected. Any tips you guys may have would be excellent. The dealer wants $250.00 to diagnose the car. He will not reprogram the car without diagnosing the car. That means it will cost me about $250 + the reset/repair. They are the only Dealer withing 500 miles, so I thinkg they are jacking up the prices for repairs.

RE: X-Type Security System
I was told that the only one that can reset the security system is the dealer, so I decided not to take it to another shop. The dealer is 200 miles away, and I will have to tow the car down there, so I am getting turned off very quickly because I don't feel like dealing with a dealership that has a virtual monopoly. I will look around and see if I can find another shop in the area that will work on Jaguars. Thanks for the suggestion. Has anybody else experienced the same issue as I am going through?

RE: X-Type Security System
I think so too. That is why I and searching the internet and this forum to see if anybody has come across this problem before. I saw several posts/messages on the internet with people having the same problem, but they don't provide an update, nor do I have a way to contact them. I'm really and a dead end right now.

RE: X-Type Security System
Do you have a local LandRover dealer or specialist as L/Rover and Jaguar use the same computer and software?
The X Type is made on the same production line as the L/Rover Freelander and they are all plugged into the same computer at the end of the productionline to program in the software.
If no luck with a nearer Landrover dealer try Ford to see if they can pull the codes?
Hope you get it sorted.

RE: X-Type Security System
Great advice. I looked for a LandRover dealer in the Corpus Christi area, and I had no luck. I will try the Ford Dealeron Monday. Hopefully they can help me out and not charge me an arm and a leg for it. I appreciate your help. By the way, whenever you turn the ignition key, but don't start the car, do you get the messages I have (Engine Fault, Transmission Fault, DSC Fault)? I am just hoping that this is not another problem the car comes with. What do you guys think?
Thanks,
Al

RE: X-Type Security System
I see. When I purchased the car, they told me that it was a repo, so I am thinking that they caused faults when they where trying to take the car. Perhaps they towed the car on two wheels for a while causing it to kick an error in the tranny. Heck, even moving it while it was in park. I scanned the computer with a scanner at Autozone, and not codes came up regarding the transmission. I didn't realize how complicated these cars where.
