Hi Yesterday the temp gauge suddenly went to red and the car lost power almost home

This morning car cold check the coolant levels around 1.5 litre down.

Took for a short run quickly temp gauge climbed to half way

travelled around 6 miles returend and left the car still with the temp at half way rad fans blowng after car locked for a longish period

any suggestions very grateful

The most obvious places to check for a coolant leak are the coolant tank as it can split or the top nipple is known to crack or also check the fuel pump.
