Default xtype starts then cuts out

can any one please give me advice, only had the car three weeks and now it was stalling all the time then started up again, now it starts and cuts out completely, had to brought home last night on a truck, the aa mechanic said it could be fuel injectors or a cheaper option to try EGR plug, as anyone had the same problem, thank you

lisa44, from the sounds of things, you are having a fuel pump that is starting to go on you. I would recommend checking the fuel rail pressure and seeing what that is and then going from there. It should be 40-50 psi when the engine is not running, but the key is in the RUN position. If the engine is running, it should be in the 30-40 psi range. Normally, the fuel rails run at the high end of these bands. If you are running at the low end of these bands or less, then odds are you need a new fuel pump. Granted, I would also look at putting a new fuel filter in (cheap part) and seeing if that helps any. There have been members that have had a problem with their fuel filters and simply replacing the filter was enough to keep them going for a bit.

As was suggested in another thread, check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. A fuel filter or new fuel pump might be what's needed, but it's a pretty simple check to start off with.

Oh, you didn't say anything that suggested fuel or electrical so I'm just suggesting something easy that could address a fuel delivery problem.

Electrical problems..., well then you're on your own... ;-)

Hi Lisa,
There's no need to start multiple threads for the same problem.
I've merged your two threads here.
It would be useful to put your car details in your signature, I assume from your
glow plug thread that the car is a diesel, that's important to know for a diagnosis!

Has your mechanic checked for the codes causing the CEL to come on?
