Yet another a/c question

Yet another a/c question
I know there are many threads about the a/c issues and I assure I have read them all. I am at the point now that I think it could be so many different things that I don't know where to begin troubleshooting.
The car is an 2004 3.0 X-type sport AWD, 68k mileage. The a/c no longer blows cold. The heat works, the fan blows hard but the air is simply no longer cold when on the a/c setting.
I was thinking about trying a spray can of the a/c recharge stuff. Does this seem like a logical starting point? Any other suggestions?
TIA,
Abe

As I mentioned in a post yesterday, just go to Walmart or Kmart (or some "chain" autoparts store) and get the AC Recharge Kit with the "How To" video.
Last time I looked it was about $30 US.
It might take 2 or 3 cans to effect a total charge. 2 cans come with the kit, and are usually sufficient, unless you blew a seal.
Here's a video about blowing a seal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2OpuuAa7gdE
(I can't believe no one has chastised me for that link yet)

I was hoping to have better news, however I am embarrassed to admit I cannot even locate the correct place to attach the recharge kit.
Every time I try to use the search function (as I am sure this topic had been covered ad nausem) I get a 'database error'.
So if anyone can help me with link to a thread thread, a DIY pic, or even just tell me what quadrant the a/c is located under the bonnet, this noob would be grateful.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
I have an '03 and assume the A/C ports are in the same location. Both the High and Low ports are located directly behind the passenger side shock / strut tower. On mine, the High side is plainly visible but the Low side - which is where the recharge line attaches - was obscured by a wiring loom. You'll probably need to move the loom aside to get enough room to attached the fitting. There is a tire valve-like cap over the Schrader fitting.
Follow the instructions on the can. Turn the temp setting in the car as low as you can get it and have the fan on high when you recharge. You'll either empty the can(s) or it's fully-charged when you have 35-40 psi on the gauge, maybe 50 psi if the ambient air temperature is 85 degrees or higher. If you have to add another can be sure to remove the line from the fitting before unscrewing the can (although most recharge kits use a one-way valve) to be sure you don't lose refrigerant.
Good luck,
Steve
