Default Aircon

Hi

I need help.

I have a Jaguar XE 2016

My air con is lovely and cold. When it works. !!!

when I start my car and have the air con in its lovely and cold at 9 degrees C.

after 10 mins of driving it stops working.

I pull over and stop for a min and stop the engine.

Start the engine and it’s fine again for a while.

What I have noticed is when the aircon stops working the start stop stops working also.

Any suggestions.

My stop-start stopped working well over a year ago, but the air con is still fine. I haven't bothered fixing the S-S as I don't like it, anyway. When was the last time your air con was checked over and especially for quantity of refrigerant ?

Welcome to the forums Wathman105,

The AC is a sealed closed-loop system but will lose around 5% refrigerant charge per year. Seal failure would cause rapid loss of refrigerant and, as it does work, this is clearly not the case. Component fault (compressor, control valve or sensor) is possible but I would have it checked first by an AC specialist.

Default Aircon

Aircon was changed in March and no leaks found.

the pressure is still spot on still.

As I say it will work then stop and then after pulling over and switching engine off for a min and restarting it’ll work for a good while.

After eliminating refrigerant/PAG oil charge, my thoughts then turn to the AC pressure sensor or a temperature sensor. However, it's a guessing game without diagnostics and throwing parts at a Jaguar soon becomes expensive.

My guess is the clutch relay. By using a test light or bypassing see if it is functioning

What is your battery like? I know from experience in other cars that when the battery charge is low, the car will start shutting down no-essential systems, which would include the AC and the Stop-Start.

Our Stop-Start system had disappeared, then returned when we replaced the battery. I would at least have the battery load tested, this would be a relatively simple test, and perhaps fix.

Yes I agree - the fact that the air con and stop-start systems both stop at the same time points to a weak battery. A quick test besides load testing is just to charge the battery using an intelligent charger (like a CTEK) and see if that temporarily fixes the problem.
