battery replacement 2015XE
Hi all,
went to the garage today and they advised my battery is dead. They went to swap it out for a Bosch S5A13 as this is the only one they had. “It’s a slightly more powerful battery” turns out it was damaged when delivered so they couldn’t compete it anyway. A couple of questions.
1. is this a suitable battery for a 2015xe as my current one is the original Jag 12V 80ah one.
2. They took the old battery out without providing a temporary power supply. Does this mean I can buy my own battery and fit myself at home? As I’m back home now anyway I can get the battery myself and fit for about £130 less than they were charging.
thank you!

Please put the XE engine and trim level in your signature. I expect there are different battery requirements for the various engines that XE's come with.
You can call the JLR dealership's parts counter or use your local parts supplier's website to find the battery specs. Also the battery manufacturer's websites. Battery type (flooded or AGM), size, post orientation and capacity are all important things to know.
How did you drive the car home without a battery installed? Usually, you need to have a core to trade in, not to mention comparing old to new. You will be charged for the core if you don't have one.
You should have the BMS reset after installing the new battery.

Wow. My 2019 is now 5 years old, & was thinking about pro-actively replacing the battery, although it still starts & works great. Just can't seem to find the right replacement part # yet, until now. Thanks for sugg at Costco & Walmart above...
Interestingly, neither Autozone not Napa’s website knows what battery my 2018 XE requires, they both say they have nothing. It’s rather a hassle to measure it, as it’s under the spare tire. Anyone know what physical size it is?
I’ve got mine on a charger right now as it was under 12V. As the car was built in Feb ‘18, it’s probably due.

There seams to be a hole in the databases, 2018 XE’s are missing but if you do a bit of interpolating, 2017 XE’s and 2018 F Paces all take 94R/H7 AGM’s.
You can look right on the existing battery to see if it match’s. You should update the BMS after you change it.

In the XE the battery monitoring module does a periodic self-calibration, which means that you don't really need to do a calibration immediately after replacing the battery.
However, if the battery replacement takes place just after a BMS self-calibration has taken place, then there will be a delay until the the car does the next self-calibration.
So the charging system will treat the new battery as an old one for that period which may, possibly, shorten the life of the new battery .
Probably not much of an issue, though.

I purchased a Duralast Platinum AGM H7 (BCI Group 94R) from Autozone. It was at about 90% charged, so I put it on the charger. It has a vent on both ends, and a plug to plug the unused one (on the left.) I’ll install it tomorrow, when I have the iCarsoft to reset the BMS.
I hadn’t really noticed that start/stop stopped working a few years ago. Wonder if the battery and BMS reset will restore that (I hope not!)
