Default New Jag with Summer Tires

I just bought a used 17 Jaguar XE 35T Prestige with only 5k miles on it. I realized today that it has Hankook Ventus V12 evo2 tires on them. Which is listed as a max performance summer tire. Im wondering if I can handle the rest of the New England winter with these tires since its almost March already.

Does anyone here have experience with these tires or similar summer tires running them in the snow? I would prefer not to blow $1000 for the last month or so of winter.

Thanks!
E

Running summer performance tires in the snow is nothing short of suicidal. You will have no traction, no ability to turn or stop. Your insurance will rightfully decline to cover the inevitable carnage you are going to cause.

Do you store the car in a garage? The safe answer is no, but if your start and rest temperature is not so cold you can get away with it. I would worry more about the cords in the tire cracking than the traction. Some tires wouldn't even ship in the winter due to the cords being so temperature sensitive.

I think it would be foolhardy for anyone to give you a green light, as the damage to the tires you can't see. Traction is traction and you'll have to decide if it's adequate for you are not.

The performance of the car demands tyres like those Hankooks when you're driving in summer. In the colder parts of Europe, especially Germany, they insist on winter tyres when conditions get "wintry", (who decides this is anybody's guess !). Some contries insist on winter tyres between certain dates.

So if you don't have any such laws in New England, you can go out, but if you prang the car it's down to you. Why not lock the car in the garage until it gets a bit warmer, or buy another set of wheels and fit winter tyres. Jaguar wheels are not cheap, but you may find some nice ones on eBay.

Totally a bad idea to drive on winter time with summer tires. Not only you will risk to destroy them, but you risk also to loose the control of the car! In italy we can't neither drive with the wrong one....I suggest you to buy as me the 4 seasons tires...so u can save some money.

I have the same issue as I bought a car and I've the winter one, but the old owner gave me also the summer one and I will put for the end of the month or I'll consume in few weeks with the high temperature....and I do not want to risk my life as well.

Just change it, you bought a nice car...do not block yourself for these few issues, are part of the game.

While I wouldn’t usually recommend it, the forecast is for a mild March (50s this week.) I wouldn’t change them at this point, but I’d avoid driving the car if it’s snowy or cold.

May pull the F-type out of storage soon...

Default Summer vs all season or winter tires.

Agree with previous posts. Summer tires in the cold is asking for trouble. That said, summer tires on a Jag are a delight. Consider investing in a dedicated set of winter tires (which are also amazing in the snow), and keep your summer tires for summer fun!

My understanding is that in northern Germany car insurance companies require snow tires in the winter otherwise they wont pay for claims.
