Jaguar XE diesel 2016 2.0l, has a strange but loud noise, only when the engine is warm (after about half an hour of driving through the city). It can only be heard when the car is in neutral. There is like a rumble of tin and it comes from the DPF area. The engine shoots well, I have no lights on board .....

 

Well, don't forget that the DPF lights up ocasionally to burn off all the black particles it accumulates over time. If it starts a recycling process, but doesn't complete it because the journey is too short or too slow, it wil keep trying. Are you doing reasonably long trips every so often, or is it all tootling around Dublin ? Such motoring is not good for diesel-engined cars with DPFs and also EGRs, (exhaust gas recirculation valves)

 

I'm trying, because I know what it's about, with this pandemic I haven't made too many long trips on the highway, but shouldn't I have warning light on board? . Very strange. I was very happy to buy a jaguar but I have only problems with it. Much more reliable was the old and cheap skoda.

 

It seems the DPF recycling is working for you. Only when the DPF gets clogged-up will it display a warning on the dash. XEs and also the XF later model from 2015, tend not to have DPF problems.
