Default XE v6 r sport odd engine noise

Hello. After using the incontrol app to start my car for the first time via that method, I heard a 'clunk' sound 10 seconds after shutting the car off. I would equate it to the sound/loudness of the hood latching. I have not noted this before. Does anyone have any insight? Thanks!

I do hear that type of noise occasionally after shutting down the car since I bought it brand new, not sure what's its source or whether it's a cause of concern.

It seems to be 4-5 seconds after shutting the car off. Oddly it started the first time I used the incontrol app to start it. I am unsure if it is the fuel position valve or dreaded sc coupler issue. The sc issue however would make the noise at shutoff, not afterwards, correct? The reason I am nervous is I have only put 500 miles on it since buying it used. My initial impression was it ran great, but imo a little rattle-y at idle. Do you happen to know if the SC coupler clunk sound is present.immediately at shutoff, or if it is delayed as well?

The Jaguar AJ126 engine is not known for its refinement or quiet operation, read the following long-term test of the XE where they complain about the random drivetrain noises:

Thanks. That article sums things up well. I have not had issue with thd 20" tires or wheels, and out streets are the worst in the state. I now know to be extra careful though.

Yes, the clunk from a bad SC coupler comes as the engine stops turning, not after.

I know this is old, but the noise you're mentioning (a sort of thud) is the throttle calibrating itself. Perfectly normal.
A bad coupler can be heard as the engine is shutting off and sounds sharper.

That clunk is usually nothing to worry about. After shutdown, a few systems on these cars cycle or reset. Common ones are:
  • EVAP purge valve / fuel system – it can vent or depressurize a few seconds after shutdown.
  • HVAC blend doors – sometimes you’ll hear a thump as they return to their default position.
  • Electronic parking brake or relays – these can make a mechanical “clunk” that sounds like a latch.
It tends to be more noticeable when shutting the car down remotely since you’re outside and listening for it, rather than just walking away after driving. If the sound is a single, quick clunk and there are no warning lights or repeated noises, it’s considered normal behavior. If it changes in volume/frequency or is accompanied by other symptoms, then I’d have the dealer check it out.
