XES squeaks, rattles, and pops from the interior
Hi all,
My 2018 XES is incredibly squeaky, rattly, and poppy in the interior. I believe I've isolated the following sounds:
@motorcarman I noticed a post in another part of the forum and you posted some really handy TSBs, so I thought I'd post my list of sounds here to see if you (or anyone else) have any TSBs or advice specific to this car. I'll document my progress as it goes and we might end up with a 'squeaks and rattles' how-to thread for the XE
Cheers
My 2018 XES is incredibly squeaky, rattly, and poppy in the interior. I believe I've isolated the following sounds:
- A creak between two panels covering the driver's seatbelt retraction mechanism - holding them while driving silences one of the many sounds. I plan to use some sort of foam either between the panels or underneath them to apply pressure in whatever direction makes them quiet
- Clicks that sound like they come from the roof area, but the actual location changes. Most noticeable when the car goes over a driveway and the chassis twists. Based on research I suspect the sunroof, but cleaning the rubbers don't seem to help.
- Squeaks from the thin door rubbers that rest against the paint, which have been 'fixed' with 3m 'anti-squeak' tape (UHMW tape)... a temporary solution as the tape looks awful.
- A buzz in the plastic mesh covering the driver's side tweeter. I should be able to use some sort of foam to stop this one.
- Many creaks in the dash where the panels meet. Mostly appears when I push the panels around the HUD and the small uppermost panel closest to the windscreen. Probably a 'force little bits of foam' in job.

I was hearing a lot of rattles as well. I found that my glasses in the overhead holder were doing the rattling. So now I just have a large lens cloth wrapped around them and the car is much quieter.
I have some noise in the cabin as well. I have a weird/annoying whistle sound when the windows are down. Not sure what I can do to fix it :/. Do have some occasional rattles and pops as well.
