When button is pushed in either direction the motor will endlessly move or at least make noise, but the manual turnkey will not rotate in either direction.

There are steel posts at the front on the left and right side that are not attached to anything.

When using the manual turn key the only thing that moves are the sliding hooks that go back and forth slightly a few inches which are also not attached to anything.

There is a spinged mechanism that seems to still be intact but is not attached to anything. It has a peg that seems to insert to something on each end.

The roof freely drops or raises with touch. Probably need a new seal cause I can see light shining though. it will not drop at the front in order to slide back.

The wider piece of the interior (apolstered) sliding panel is not attached to anything and has two hangers on top that can be seen from the outside peaking in.

The shorter panel (on interior thats fabric) not sure if its attached to anything is actually lodged way in the back. moves a little bit.

Probably need to do a tear down of the entire ceiling! where do I start? taking down the sides and handles at the top? Should I remove it completely and play with it? Should I just buy a netw sunroof all together?
Has anyone worked on this problem?

Hi Chris,

When the roof is raised, you can slide out the interior panel. Now you can see a lot more from the mechanism, and see if there are parts that are broken.

Now you can also see the points that hold the roof itself.

Look at the attachments I have add. it shows detailed drawing of the roof assembly.

Thanks for the Reply and useful diagrams! I think even my bottom is off the track but it does slide when you wiggle it. Do you think I need to take off the whole ceiling our just tinker as is? Would It make it easier to?

 

Just raise it and remove the panel :-)

Grab it at the end and pull! Of course afterwards you can remove the roof itself. I'm sure it needs a realignment when you place it back. So just have a good peek if its worth the work before removing everything and start dismantling.

 

Took everything apart the other day and discovered there are some broken clips that hold the interior panels


Still cant figure out what connect to what even with the diagrams.

can I order them?
also fabric on ceiling needs to be reattached to the mold.

is there a good trick to sticking it back on?
I heard there is a good 3m spray glue that works.

Good to hear from you again! I see that you have done a lot of work and shot some pictures, nice!

To answer your question, the interior panel is pretty stiff and from a hard material. It is very easy to just reattach the fabric to the panel. its not like the roof liner, which has much more foam and is not as stiff as the little sunroof panel.

I think whatever suites you the best, remove all the fabric and glue it back on the panel. I don't know the state of your panel, perhaps make a photo?
3M sounds fine, I used Bison glue. Just be sure its a tight fit and no fabric hangs lose.

About the clips, you could get them from a donor car?

When I see your post I ran outside to make some photo's for you from my roof assembly. I didn't want to pull anything out because my panel is just as fragile as others! ;-) Anyways I hope it helps you sorting out your sunroof.

I edit one picture for you, the black markings are for the inner panel, red for the mechanism and blue for the roof itself. Check the clips that hold the interior panel and compare them with yours.

To be honoust I have never removed the complete panel before!
I will have to do it sooner or later because I want to work with the rust at some points. It must be done before its starting to eat my linings!

 

So this is an older thread, but has a lot of good info in it but does raise a question I am uncertain of.... how does one remove the inner sunroof fabric covered "main" (not the smaller rear) panel?

Perhaps it may be obvious when I get in there and raise the rear of the sunroof, but I know these sunroof mechanisms are notorious about plastic clips and such breaking so I don't want to force or guess.

Along with needing to synchronize my SCRM, I too also need to reglue the fabric on the larger interior sunroof panel. So I need to remove it.

Any tips/tricks/lessons-learned are much appreciated.
