Question Software Update to 4.5.0 Killed Remote App/InControl Functionality on 2021 XF

Hi everyone,

I updated software on my 2021 XF yesterday to the latest Pivi Pro 4.5.0.

As with previous updates, I received a notification that the update was ready to install, accepted it, left the car, and later came back to a message saying the installation had completed successfully.
Shortly afterwards, I noticed that I was unable to start the car/precondition it remotely, but I got into the car and drove off without thinking too much of it.

Today, when I opened the mobile Remote app, I noticed the following:
  • The car’s location in the app is still showing the place where it was parked when the software update was installed.
  • Any remote request from the app fails with “Request Failed — Check your connection and retry.”
  • I cannot use any remote features: lock/unlock, remote start/preconditioning, service mode, transport mode, etc.
  • I also tried setting service mode from the InControl website, but that cannot get through to the car either.
So far I have tried the following:
  • Reinstalled the Jaguar Remote app.
  • Cleared the mobile app cache and data.
  • Logged back into the app with my credentials.
  • Drove the car to another town to rule out a local mobile signal issue.
  • Used Reset Connectivity from the Pivi Pro menu.
  • Confirmed that Pivi Pro shows network details, MAC addresses, and that it is connected to the EE network.
  • Deleted both user accounts/profiles from Pivi Pro and logged in again with username and password, to avoid stale cached authentication tokens.
  • Verified that Pivi Pro has a mobile connection and is consistently showing 4G on the main screen.
The interesting part is that the OS 4.5.0 release notes mention:
“Enhancements to remote diagnostics, allowing your Jaguar to report more detailed information to our technical teams for faster, more accurate issue detection.”
Given that, I am wondering whether something has gone wrong with the car’s telematics/TCU connection or InControl provisioning after the update.

Has anyone else experienced this after updating to Pivi Pro OS 4.5.0, or am I just unlucky?
I would really appreciate any ideas how to try and solve the problem.

Thanks in advance

I would suggest an update to the sofware will come through to reset location and functionality. At least I hope so.

Thanks for sharing.
I'll give it a couple of days and if nothing changes or no solution will be found by anyone then I will contact JLR and/or take the car to JLR service.
The annoying thing is that I suspect that even though they "broke" it themselves with the update, they will want to push the cost of fixing their own mistake onto the customer.

Hi, Thanks for the update.

I'm glad to hear that your problem is fixed.

How do you know that the software reset itself?
Was there any kind of notification on the PIVI PRO screen or the app?
Or did it just "silently" start working?

Default Issue Solved

So just to let anyone know for future reference, the issue has resolved itself after around over 50 hours from the time of the update (similar to what Brianleonardevans reported a few hours earlier).

I think it fixed itself on its own, but I'll post just in case the steps which I took just before it started to work.

So... when I got into the car after around 50 hours it still wasn't fixed.
I took the car for 20 minute drive, then locked the car again and the issue was still there. Then I did the following:
* Pressed and held the Phone button on the steering wheel.
* Kept holding it continuously for 30 to 45 seconds. Ignored the initial black screen and continued holding it until the jaguar logo disappeared and reappeared a second time on the PIVI screen.
* Took the car for a short 10-minute drive. Locked it, Then drove it back for another another 10 minutes and locked the car again
* Deleted and reinstalled the Remote app on the phone.
* Opened the Remote app and the issue was gone.

Just to be clear - there were no special messages or updates visible that would indicate the problem was resolved.

From what I understand there might be a possibility that authentication tokens might have had to be reissued and this could have happened once they expired, so my actions might have been useless and only a coincidence
Presumably all it takes is "just" 2-3 days of patience and a mental note to oneself not to install updates before any important trips.
