XF emergency key not turning
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has had the issue where their emergency key blade won't turn. We went out to our car last Saturday and the doors wouldn't open with the key fob. The boot opens and we thought the car battery was flat as the light in the boot was flickering and the console inside the car wasn't bright. We've not been able to turn the emergency key blade to get into the car. My husband tried to charge the battery but it would only charge to around 80%, he got a new car battery and has changed the fuses in the boot just in case. We have used wd40 in the lock and today used wd40 specialist ptfe spray. We have phoned a locksmith who advised it sounded like it was seized and to keep spraying lubricant, leave overnight and try again using pliers gently on the keyblade, he suggested bike chain lubricant which husband is now off to buy. He has also changed the battery in the fob. I just wondered if anyone else has had these problems and has any advise?
Not in my case. The last time I used it. I had Emergency key copied for another one by a locksmith. It worked fine. The thing is the key hole is covered by the door handle cap, so it is protected from dust, rain, snow, rust, etc.
It could have frozed because it's winter. Use a hair dryer for 5 minutes plugged into an electrical industry approved extention cord afterwards spray it with penetrating lubricant like wd40 then insert Emergency key. to be on the safe side, make sure you aim the hair dryer nozzle to the key hole only because it could or might damage the car paint around it
