Default "008 XF gearbox / Brake issue

Just to pass a little info on as can`t seem to see it...

my car has had some issues lately ... thinking back i`ve had a intermittent gearbox failure warning message pop up from time to time...which normally cleared with a engine restart....

In the last week issues have cropped up ..firstly i was on the motorway in heavy rain when a "cannot apply park brake" warning in big red letters filled the dash,, drove it home to hull fearing the worst, couldn`t apply the epb naturally due to the fault but could still put the gearbox into park strangely... next day the issue cleared up...

now a week or so later the same warnings have come up and the car was stuck in park and unable to move despite the gearbox going into drive etc, the brake would not release.. which by all means would be expected to point to a epb brake failure....
well it seems this is not so...

the fault is the gearbox module
which is atm being replaced.

will post onto thread if this turns out to clear it all...just i have seen others have have brake issues etc and may be related..just food for thought.

Yes the rotary shifter had problems when introduced. The only solution is replacement and be aware that there were a number of bad replacement modules too.

Hopefully at this late date your replacement module should be fine.

Yes and note the part number because we are not sure if ALL the early units have been replaced.

I have had the car back a week now and all seems fine again... this issue has brought up another issue as well as the emegency brake release cable has snapped as a result of it being a very non used item and when needed it snapped from age, so that needs changing asap.

So what exactly was done to fix the problem? Did they do a complete transmission replacement?

no... it was the gearbox selector module that is inside the car...in other words a electronic problem.. that module controls the gearbox and the handbrake and that is what went faulty.
