Default 2009 XF - Common screen problem, but nothing resolved yet, and getting expensive!

Hi all,

I have seen the many posts in regards to the flashing jaguar logo on the display screen. A lot of people saying it's the Bluetooth controller n so on, beneath the passenger seat (for RH steering vehicles).

Firstly i took my car to a independent specialist who virtually filled my ears up with crap! They tried to sell me a brand new screen at the cost of £1500+ VAT + Fitting! and thank god i didn't go ahead, otherwise i would've liked to seen how they would re-reimburse me as it doesn't appear to be the screen that's at fault. Upon there request they claimed to have carried out a system update at the cost of £72.00 to which i agreed to. Obviously making no difference!

I then decided to take matters into my own hands, as i'm bit more than a Sunday diy'er when it comes to fixing cars. Checked for all fuses within engine bay, central (beneath pedals) and the one in the boot (trunk) space. All appeared to be good.

I then managed to find a few good reputable breakers who where selling a Used screen, CD player main driver and Bluetooth unit (black box) under the passenger seat. All 3 of these components were changed at different intervals throughout the week and to my surprise, there was no improvement, still the same old flashing logo.

I've not quite got to the grips of testing fibre optics, but what i do know is there is flashing lights as the harnesses are plugged back in, which i presume is doing it's job correctly. I'm become really upset now as to what else it could be? I know the doubts in purchasing second hand, used spares is not always a great idea, but 3 items have been changed and there still was no joy!

I would kindly like to ask anyone who had similar issues and resolved this? there is one more box beneath the seat to be changed i believe, which is the one that goes to the Ipod connection, but surely this can't be the reason to why the screen is flashing and the CD player doesn't accept/eject any CD's.

Regards,

Harry

There look to be multiple fixes. I guess you saw them via Search.

Mine was the Navigation CD unit in the Boot, or trunk. Used unit fixed it!

I had issues with a flickering screen and my issue was solved when I replaced the windshield washer pump that was defective - water was wicking up the wires all the way to the fuse box from the passenger footwell.
I also had to clean the contacts from the fuse box, including replacing some of the fuses.

After that, never had an issue with the screen flickering. Mine is a 2012 XF... not sure if yours could have similar issues or not.
Had a thread about where I described all the other issues I was having because of it - here.

Originally in my thread I went for the same thing - the Bluetooth module. I never end up putting the new unit in since I didn't had issues with it after the water pump change.
And as such, I have a brand new Bluetooth unit sitting somewhere on the shelf .

I've gone through most searches and not all relate to my issue. It's a really bizarre, as most people are relating to water problems. The fuse box, wiring looms and control boxes are all absolutely dry, everything looks new! There is no signs to show any water is getting into this vehicle at all.

It has to be something... can only be some sort of short. Just because is dry doesn't mean that the humidity didn't got in places it should of not and either some connections have built a little bit of oxidation... or you are unlucky and somewhere, somehow a wire got cut/damaged and that creates the issue. Or... the unit itself is bad.

Sounds like one of those situation where you need to start pulling things off and start following those wires with a magnifying glass before replacing the unit.
I feel your pain though...
