No Jaguar yet, but I do have a "common order number"
Since the successor to the E Type was announced I've been following its progress. I attended the introductory reception at my local dealer, followed the "Jaguar Alive Driving Experience" at Alameda Naval Air Station.
Nice, but no coupe. Still, I followed up with longer test drives of the F Type at the local dealer. I also drove quite a few other cars.
Skipping ahead a year or so, I then attended the coupe's introductory reception.
Gorgeous, but no manual transmission. Don't get me wrong: the ZF 8-speed is the first automatic that I felt I could live with in a "driver's" car. And yet, I was in no hurry to jump on one. I might have gone for one, but Jaguar announced that a 6-speed would be available for 2016. A few days later, I put down a deposit, knowing that an actual order would be some nebulous time in the future. Nevertheless, I got first in line for a manual transmission at my local dealer.
Skipping ahead another 5+ months, an order slot opened up there and as of yesterday, I have a "common order number."
I expect that it should arrive in 4 months, or slightly less.
It'll be a 6-speed F Type S with a few carefully chosen options.
Through 2015 model year, I have driven five of the six variants (all but the R Coupe) and noted this:
The V8's power is intoxicating, but combined with the extra weight made the car feel less balanced. The base V6 has good power, but it's not offered with some of the options I feel necessary *for me*. 340 HP and an open differential? If I have to go up to 380 HP to get a limited slip diff, that's a sacrifice I'm willing to make.
I've got a modest car history (for my age) and a less modest motorcycle history.
I currently own:
1978 Saab 99 Turbo (I had an independent Saab shop for a decade)
2012 Volvo C30 with Polestar tune and an number of upgrades
Seven motorcycles. The pick of the litter is an MV Agusta F4 312R. It has no electronic rider's aids at all: no ABS, no spin control, no wheelie control. It's a psychopathic supermodel.
Past vehicles? I'll save that for later.
The 312's predecessor was the first year MV F4S, and I waited 14 months after my deposit for delivery. The C30 was ordered to spec and came in after 2 1/2 months. Waiting's not a big problem. It's not *no* problem, but not big.

Skipping ahead another 5+ months, an order slot opened up there and as of yesterday, I have a "common order number."
I don't know how they can call it a 'common' order number when it's for a Jaguar.
I currently own:
The pick of the litter is an MV Agusta F4 312R. It has no electronic rider's aids at all: no ABS, no spin control, no wheelie control. It's a psychopathic supermodel.
I've never had a bike with electronic aids.

Thanks to all for their greetings. I've been active on the forums for my current car and its predecessor, and each forum has its own flavor and its own characters.
F Type S, not S Type. The text in your link is right, but the link points to the x200 sub-forum. Threw me for a loop until my coffee started to take effect.

(That's not quoting properly, but I'll leave it be)
I haven't either, but it seems they're all going that way. I can understand why. The number of people who can really take advantage of all that capability is miniscule. The aids allow people with unwarranted faith in their skill and inadequate common sense to survive.
