Default 2009 XFSC Battery ?

Got an Interstate AGM from the dealer. Was pretty expensive (around $300) but knowing the gremlins that pop up with a weak battery and the fact I have a big amp running a sub, I felt it was a wise choice for about $100 more. I put AGM in everything now, Infiniti, motorcycle and finallyJag. Have no issues leaving any of them for weeks without starting

I've never had good luck with Optimas in my previous cars. I have a Sear's Platinum AGM battery in another car that works great (winter car stored with a battery maintainer during the summer). I'm currently using a Duralast Gold battery (H8-DLG) in my XFSC becase that was the best they offered at the time. They now offer a Duralast Platinum AGM (H8-AGM) version which I wouldn't hesitate to get if I needed another battery. It is an Autozone battery that was better than the stock specs. The stores are all over around here it's easy to get a replacement if I ever have an issue with it.

Heat kills batteries. People think it's cold because weak batteries die in cold weather due to inability to deliver power. The failure was caused the previous summer.

If you drive frequently in very hot conditions AGM batteries are a good investment. Heat kills batteries because they get hot when charging. The heat stresses the plates which causes them to shed material faster than when cooler. AGM addresses this issue and they just last a lot longer as a result. The AGM holds the plate material in place better than standard liquid only batteries. They are expensive though.

Just got of the phone with the local Jag Dealer and was surpised that the replacement battery for mine was only 180.00....Service advisor was pretty sure that no module reset is required ..just a swap?

Thanks for the feedback too.

Someone will have to reset the travel limits on the windows and sunroof. This is easy to do yourself if the installer forgets.

Resetting window limits in the XF:

Your switch has 5 positions. We'll call them:
  • "-2" which is the switch all the way down for automatic down
  • "-1" which is the switch slightly down for bringing the window down manually
  • "0" which is the switch just sitting on its normal position
  • "1" which is the switch slightly up for bringing the window up manually
  • "2" which is the switch all the way up for automatic up
The reset procedure is very simple:
  1. Shut the radio off and other source of noises, you are going to be looking for a little "click"
  2. Hold the switch of the window you wish to re-teach the limits in position "-1". Even after the window is all the way down, keep holding it and listen for a little click. When you hear it go to the next step.
  3. Hold the switch on position "1". Again, even after the window is all the way up keep holding it and listen for a "click".
  4. That is it! Repeat for all windows and you are all set!
You may have to do this a few times if it doesn't work or you can't hear the click.

If you actuate the switch and hold for 3+ seconds you don't need to hear the click, at steps 2 and 3 described. I can never hear it myself.

Also, on my 2013 I just noticed the rear windows have two successive auto down positions which I found odd before I realized how handy this is. The first auto down press of the rear window button just cracks the rear window open an inch or so, perfect for venting the air pressure inside the car. Only the second press drops the window all the way down. A longer first press will also drop the window all the way down.

If you forget this method its described in the handbook. Sunroof travel limits are set in similar fashion.

Also you can connect a 9v battery to the system while changing the battery and it will hold all settings. I use wires with alligator clips.

But won't the outgoing 12V battery try to charge the 9V battery, pumping lots of amps into the 9V battery?

I think the polarity has to be reversed to charge a battery. Two batteries connected in parallel will not try to flow current through each other.
