Default 2010 xf fuel smell

We have a 2010 jaguar xf, 60,000 miles on it, and have had a fuel smell. It is also burning gas. Jaguar dealer told us new fuel rail $1,500. Brought it to another mechanic and they saw no leaks and smelled no gas. I spoke with 2 other mechanics and they say drive it and see if smell comes back then bring it back in. Hard to believe that a car with only 60,000 miles on it needs and entire fuel rail replacement.
Any Ideas? Nervous to drive due to the dealer.

There was some issue I remember about the seal around the fuel pump under the rear passenger seat causing a fuel smell. I would recommend searching for something along those lines.

How do you know it's burning gas? And how much is it burning? If it was a noticeable amount of gasoline being lost, and it was dripping that much onto a hot engine from a high pressure fuel rail, I would have expected you'd be dead by now.

Watch out with the humor DPK. It can get you in a lot of trouble here in the "no humor" forum. Strictly business and answers to the issue at hand or you will be chastised with Nobel laureate references from NJ.

I had a similar issue with my 2010 XF. The smell would originate from the front of the vehicle while I was driving and while parked. It took me three attempts at the dealer, but they finally fixed it. One of the line had hair line crack and it was giving off vapors, so they had to replace the line, after that no issue on fuel vapor.

I have the same issue with fuel smell in the cabin. Thank you for giving me some places to start to fix this issue.

I am dealing with a similar strong fuel oder in my 2009 XF-SC and around it. It's very annoying. I had this happen once before about 3 years ago and it was a buried fuel line that cracked. Was over $1,000 to repair it (memory might be off) but it was buried in the motor.

Have to take the car in. It's unfortunate as I'm just hitting 100k miles and the fuel issue, the TPMS have gone out, now a check engine light (emissions sensors) and on top of that my leather dash looks like bacon.

Thinking I might be better off trading it in (giving it away) and getting something different.

Check your fuel filter mounting flange under the fuel pump access panel, under the passenger side of the back seat, it's a known fuel leak area. If it's orange or wet anywhere, it's been leaking.

Did you find what the issue was with your car?
