Default 2010 XF Premium tranny issue - anybody else?

My car has started down shifting very abruptly as I come to a stop. Not every time but when it does it, it lurches the car forward just as you are easing off the brakes to make a smooth stop.

It only is into 1st as you are stopping.

Anybody else

No issues, but only 3k miles on my '11. How many miles on your car?

Have the dealer look at it, it could be the transmission control module. If that is not it, have the transmission fluid changed. Yes I know the transmission fluid is "lifetime" but I take that with a grain of salt.

But the first thing I'd do is take it to the dealer. How does the transmission upshift under hard acceleration?

Do you use the sport setting? The sport setting has nothing to do with your problem nor will its use cause you trouble, but I was wondering if the car reacts the same way using sport

This is considered to be normal by both ZF and Jaguar. It is the lock up clutch and the shift to second gear for your next acceleration event. No cure.

10 XF Premium, I just had this exact thing happen to my 09 XF Premium (Bought it used about 3 weeks ago). Was unsure if the dealer would be able to do anything about it but thought I would ask (I was getting a taillight replaced and wood trim on driver door). They said that the transmission is adaptive and will conform to the way you drive. They said that they reset the module and were hesitant to do anything further. Needless to say after having it back from the dealer for 2 days the aggressive downshifting into 1st I was feelings has completely disappeared! Go in and ask them to reset it and it should fix everything right up!

It doesn't downshift into first until you really step on it.

My car has around 37k miles.

It is scheduled to visit the shop a week from Monday to fix the phantom dome light illunimation, I will have them look at it, but since it is intermittent, I doubt it will act up for them.

I never use the S mode in auto because I don't like the revs holding that high all the time.

And I expect the harder shifts in manual mode but this is happening in normal auto mode.

Mine has 42,000 km's on it and it just started happening. Right as I was slowing down to stop it would make a hard downshift into 1st. (Going about 3 km/h and slowing to a stop) So much so that it would sort of whip your neck a bit and would not make for a smooth ride at all (which I would expect out of a luxury car). I rarely use sport mode this was happening in normal auto mode. They reset the adaptive transmission module and it has completely disappeared. I would be surprised if it didn't fix it when they reset this. Let me know.

Thanks,

Aaron

My phantom dome light was replaced under warranty. I'm not sure they even replicated the error, rather I think they just took my word for it. Fairly common I guess. My 2012 loaner with 7kmi did it, too.

The dome lights can at times come on. Mine seemed to come on when I hit a bump (maybe once a month). The dealer replaced the light and it's been fine ever since.

Aaron, thanks for this useful information. I started noticing this a couple of years ago and someone on one of these boards said it was a known issue on Jaguars and BMWs, so in my various visits to the dealer, I never even mentioned it. I was just there a few weeks ago for my annual service. Next time I bring it in for something else, I'll have them do this.
