I was driving to work today and the "Engine systems fault" light comes on. I turn around and go home, car seems to be running normally otherwise. I get home and I can't turn the car off. I press and hold the stop/start button and it chimes and the engine systems warning comes up and if I press the button several times ( as described in the owners manual) that also does nothing.
I also can't lock the car, and I'm not liking the idea of leaving a running, unlocked car in front of my house!
Any ideas of how to shut it off and fix the problem? My basic code reader says no codes, the live datastream values look normal. I did a search and others mentioned battery corrosion, the terminals look fine on my car, no corrosion on either battery.
I have pulled some fuses and then disconnected the battery. First I pulled the fuel pump fuse, then the ECU fuses.
It has rained the last few days, and the sunroof drain on the right side appears to have become plugged again. I cleaned it in the summer and thought I had it clear, but there was a puddle of water above the drain when I opened the sunroof. I took off the kickpanel in the footwell and blew air into some of the connectors and got a mist of water out, and the carpet is wet; so I'm suspecting water is where it shouldn't be and has taken down a network.
To close the loop, I dried the car out and then reconnected the battery. The radio came on, and the car's systems were alive. I shut it off then started the car and it started and shut off again as it should. I think it was just water in the harness connectors and now that it's dry it's working as it should. I hope anyway, I have not driven it further than a few car lengths.
Thanks for coming back with the resolution. Too often we see questions posted, advice given ........ followed by nothing and we never know the outcome.
Hey, I just wanted to say your advice really helped me. My dad had the exact same problem with the same weather conditions and I decided to see if anyone had experienced the same problem. We don't know much about cars but we were able to turn off the car engine by removing a fuse from the fuse box. The only difference from your instructions was that we couldn't find a fuse with the number 37, but with the help of a mechanic through a video call we were able to identify which fuse to remove. It worked! So thank you for the advice! We were kinda desperate as nothing else was working to turn off the car and we didn't want to leave it on all night until it ran out of fuel.
Keep troubleshooting your just at the beginning.
Can you DIY this? You might have to take in to a shop otherwise.
Again details matter. Does the car turn over but does not start? Or does not turn over at all? Your going to have to go step by step.
You jumped into an old thread and you will get better results with starting your own thread with all the details.
