Default Couple of questions about heating / cooling system 2010 XF SV8

We've just come into some hotter weather here and I have discovered a couple of issues with the stuff that is supposed to keep me cool. Firstly, the cooled seats...the base of the driver's seat is getting cool but not the backrest / upright part, so I am getting a cool backside and a sweaty back. Should the seat cooler be cooling the upright section also? I'm pretty sure it should be, so wondering what the likely problem is? I have the vented leather type seats. I've had a look at a couple of threads about the filters and ducts but am unsure if that issue is consistent with a failure to cool just the upright section.
Edit: I've just done some more thorough reading on this and it appears likely I have a faulty squab blower, I'll take the back off the seat when I get a chance to investigate. Would really appreciate advice on the other question below though...

The second question regards the dash vents. I do not seem to be getting any air blowing out of them no matter what the cooling system is set to. I am getting a strong blast of cold air in the footwell even when the foot section is switched off; I get noise but not a whole lot of air from the windscreen vents when it is switched there (still mostly comes out the footwell) and nothing from the dash vents even when screen & footwell are switched off and fan on high. Is the system controlled by vacuum diaphragms that might have a perished hose? Solenoids that I need to find?? Motors??? I'd be grateful for any clues before I go crawling under the dash.

You will probaly find the vent tube to the backrest has splits in it. Just remove back of seat (very easy job). One other thing check the settings for the seats, as the bottom & back can be switched seperatly so might be switched off!

There's a stepper motor that controls the feet/face air distribution, maybe either the climate control system can't communicate with it or its failed.

I wasn't aware of this, will check it first. Thanks.

I just checked the wiring diagram and it seems the stepper motors are in a LIN chain starting with the screen motor so it might actually be the screen stepper motor that has failed, or can't communicate with the climate control system, and the feet/face issue is a downstream problem.

I don't think that's correct. Each seat is either on one of three cooling settings or off. There isn't independent control of seat base vs back cooling

On the vent issue, try pulling the codes via the OBD port. I think damper issues can get logged as a code.

Nup it is correct, there is a setting in the screen menu to select whole seat or just base. Mine was already on the whole seat though.

Thanks I'll get my mechanic to have a look next service.

I just did the repair on the seat duct in the backrest only; it was a very quick and easy job. Heading off to work soon so I'll see how it is, but I'm pretty confident as everything was working but the duct was very badly broken up.

The facia vents look like a much more complicated job, I'll need to leave that until I have a lot more time to play. In the meantime I'm very keen to hear anything further that might help me find the appropriate control parts etc.

BritCars is correct, damper/motor issues should raise a DTC.

Strange. I've never seen that screen before. But looks like it does as you say. I just use the controls on the main screen.
I'll look tomorrow!
