After a number of reports of this issue, I've contacted Jaguar CRC in the UK (see original message and reply below).

Any individual with a dented decal should send a PM to Mike@Jaguar giving:

1. VIN
2. Name
3. Contact details

Mike will look into this issue.

If individual customers are having this issue then they can PM me their details (VIN, Name, Contact details etc) and I will get this looked into.

Many Thanks

Mike

Is there a repair/replacement procedure for this badge? US dealers are suggesting the only option is to replace the airbag.

Regards,

I asked this question a while back and was left wondering if the crest on the airbag cover was built with an indent from the factory. Seemed nobody knew otherwise, mine is perfectly and symmetrically indented right on top of that cats nose.

Anybody?

Same here, mine is perfectly and evenly indented, so I assumed that's how it came from the factory!

Mine is unmarked with no indentation.

This is how I would expect it to be from the factory.

Guys its a common problem and it is caused by an aggressive push on the horn....its too thin. I started this post last week.

I can't find anyone on the forum with a handle of Mike@jaguar.

exactly, and since it didnt come that way from the factory, its not a warranty issue. But I do agree, someone should have thought that one out alittle bit when getting that designed and made for Jag.. Maybe someone could get new ones made to replace the growler with something like "ROCKET LAUNCH"

The decal has to be lightweight to prevent any risk of injury in the event of airbag deployment. Previous models had an embossed Jaguar logo or script and it could have been better to stick with this design.

Probably Jaguar never expected anyone would take their hand off the steering wheel to hit the centre decal. The horn is designed to operate by pressing anywhere on the pad.

Wow, already had a call back from Jaguar this afternoon. Explained that it had go be light for safety reasons when airbag deploys. And that there is really nothing they can do if it wasn't delivered with the defect or at the very least within the first year of ownership. Still believe everyone should contact them to show that it is an issue that needs to be addressed. A $1,000 repair for such a simple mishap is not fun to deal with.

It is normal that the airbag cover can be removed from the airbag module once removed from the steering wheel. Reminder to disconnect battery before as an unwanted voltage could deploy airbag. With the cover off you can likely push from the rear of the cover to push out dent. Not sure I would recommend pulling off the emblem to do this. Need to make sure the attachment is as sound as original. The cover is designed to tear apart during deployment with the emblem staying intact on one half. It's not a desirable condition to have the emblem separate from the cover during an airbag deployment (projectile)
I have not done this on jag but seen many other driver airbags with similar covers and emblems
