Fuel cap lock has disabled the entire car!
Hi, I have a Jaguar XFR on a 59 plate in the UK. There's been a problem with, I think the lock on the fuel cap that caused the locking to cycle (unlock/lock) and the car can't be started and none of the electrics would work, even though I could hear (and see!) the lock on the fuel cap going back and forth.
I have two solutions, but can't seem to get either to work, recover to a dealer or try and fix the fuel lock.
Trying to recover to a dealer, I've used the lever in the console to, I thought, release the electronic brake and put the car into neutral, but the car still won't move if you try to tow it. What's missing?
On the idea of replacing / removing the fuel lock, I've pulled back all the carpets in the left hand side of the boot, but there's nothing there that looks like a release or a lock (I was going to try and unplug it)
As it is now, the back and forth on the fuel lock has stopped, but I'm not sure if this is dead battery or what now; but until I can either take the lock off the wheels or do something useful with the fuel lock there's no point in just trying to sort out the battery I don't think.
So, I have a dead car that I can't tow and can't find the fuel lock to try and deactivate.
Any help much appreciated
Thanks

it might just be a failing battery. when my battery got near the end, the fuel door lock would not stop clicking...
Then i had a dead car stuck in the garage as none of the tow truck operators could figure out how to put into neutral!
The Red pull arm in the console will disengage the transmission so you can move the car.
hope that helps you

My US spec 10 XF Premium has a security latch. If i do not have my key fob in my pocket/hand, and the car is locked, it will not allow me to push on the fuel door and pop open. It will be locked closed.
The door is manual in that you do have to push on the door to unlatch it, but if the car is locked, and the fob not near the car, it will not open.

Regardless of where I am or for whatever reason I want to open the gas cap fuel door, I first hit the UNLOCK button on the dash and the fuel door opens every time (with the push on the door of course ) When I first got the car I didn't know that a locked car (even if the driver door is unlocked) meant that the fuel door was locked and I damn near destroyed the door trying to open it. Dahhh
It depends whether or not you have the lock/unlock setting on one stage or two stage.
If on one stage then when you open the driver's door or hit the unlock button on the fob everything unlocks - all the doors, the boot (trunk) and the fuel filler cap.
If on two stage, opening the driver's door or hitting the fob button once unlocks just the driver's door and nothing else, so you then have to hit the unlock button on the fob a second time or the unlock button on the dash to unlock everything else.
I find two stage to be a hassle, so I have set mine to one stage.

Here's a thought……two stage mode makes it impossible for someone to open and jump into the car if and when you are alone (which is most of the time for me) However, if I have company, I first open the passenger door for them and that unlocks all doors……makes me look like a gentleman.
