Fuel odor under the hood
Hi folks. Been a while since I was last on here with a problem.
On my 2009 XF premium luxury 4.2......I'm noticing a fairly strong gasoline odor in the garage after driving the car. I took the engine cover off and looked around and do not see any wet fuel but it is definitely smelling like raw fuel. The car is idling a little rough but drives great and smooth. Idles ok at stops in gear. OBD has no fault codes and all monitors are complete and "green". The fuel trims I'm not sure about...Bank one short and long are pretty erratic on acceleration but stable at idle. However both short term banks were really high at cold start, over +25. After I got the car warmed up, both short terms came down to 0 or negative 0, but with bank one jumping around a tad. Watcha think? This might be something I hand over to dealer cuz I don't feel like messing with it, but was curious if the gasoline odor under the hood poses a safety threat if driving til I get it to dealer??

How did you resolve your issue? I looked again today and now I do see the wet fuel on passenger side rail or injector. Called dealer and the fuel rail assembly is discontinued and even if I took it to a dealer, they can not repair the vehicle with a Jaguar part. Wow.....this is a 2009, not a 1949 car.!! I can buy a used one on ebay but that would mean I definitely have to tackle this replacement myself because no dealer or repair shop is going to install a used part from ebay. I previously saw a thread about this leaking passenger side rail issue with mention of a damper valve??? I can't find that thread.
The tech said it was the damper valve on mine.
The dealership sourced a fuel rail from Jagbits.com. There was only one available, hoping it shows up soon.
Any decent shop will install an eBay part. They just won’t warranty the work. When I was at LPS Motorwerks we sourced parts from eBay all the time.

Call the dealer Jaguar Land Rover of Chesterfield the www.ups.com tracking number 1Z511WY90326040977 shows it was delivered Monday!!!!
Here's the part: https://www.jagbits.com/product/AJ811283-USED.html It came with the injectors.

So, it looks like my dealer sold me a used fuel rail as NOS. I paid the dealer nearly double the price quoted by JagBits plus almost 3 hours of book time. I could be p****d but it's a pretty common game played by repair shops. Like I said, we did it at LPS. The shop is betting on the used part lasting for the required 1 year warranty.
I asked for the old rail back. The leaky bit is the damper. The tech said they used to replace just the damper but they are no longer available as a Jag part.

Couple weeks after getting the used fuel rail installed the car started having a warm start problem. I was thinking fuel pressure. My in house tech said probably the used fuel pressure regulator went bad sitting on the shelf. I stopped in at the dealership that installed the rail and they said nope, they reused my original injectors and regulator. So I swapped it out for the one that came with the used rail, they had given me a baggie of parts with the bad fuel rail. Running great.
