On a previous thread, I inquired about fuel odor under the hood. Various other past threads on the forum have discussed the fuel rail dampers and for some reason, the somewhat common failure of these dampers on the passenger side only. After further investigation of mine, I can now clearly see the source of my leak is the passenger side damper. I have discovered that Jaguar no longer supports the fuel rail assembly, meaning the only place to get a complete fuel rail assembly is used, which seems a gamble.
I think the dampers are available. Looking at the passenger side fuel rail, I see that disconnecting the aft mounted fuel rail temp electrical connector is really difficult to get to. Let me ask the absurd question...has anyone ever successfully replaced the damper without removing the rail? It looks to me that the damper can probably be removed by tweaking the prongs off with a flathead screwdriver, and possibly ? a new damper pressed back in with the rail still mounted via a small c-clamp. Maybe?
The only repair I have heard of for the fuel rail damper is to take the fuel rail to the bench and remove the damper. Then solder a metal patch over the hole. It appears that the damper is not really necessary.

learned something new and astonishing today. After fruitless search for a fuel rail, I called Jaguar USA and was told that Jaguar/Land Rover does not make or distribute ANY factory parts for a vehicle older than 2015 !!!! Wow! So no Jaguar dealer service center can even replace certain parts on a vehicle 8 years old or older. That is remarkable.
That must be a USA thing; I often get quotes on parts from my nearest Jaguar dealer. Usually they are so expensive that I go elsewhere, but sometimes they're the only source.
Compares pretty badly with some like Fiat, I remember some time ago they could supply a part for every vehicle they ever made.
Well it helps to understand how Jaguar handles parts and older cars. Yes they will say 10 years and no more parts BUT what they have done is to move ALL old parts over to the "Classic" side of the business. Here is how they describe it.
Jaguar Land Rover Classic Parts supply authentic parts for classic Jaguars and Land Rovers that have been out of production for 10 years or more. All our parts are manufactured to precise specifications using original drawings and tooling, often by the original suppliers. Our expert craftsmen and engineers live and breathe Jaguar Land Rover and are as committed as you to maintain the unique spirit of a true classic. We carry parts for all the iconic models below. Our range includes tens of thousands of parts and we are constantly introducing new parts and product ranges to our offering.
So what happens is Jaguar clears out or sells all parts over 10 years of age to this "Classic" division. I have used the following for older parts.
I get Jaguar parts in Jaguar boxes so it seems to work. Is there anything you are looking for?
My method is to first make darn sure you have the correct part number and go off that.
Several manufacturer's have gone this route and Mercedes claims to be able to supply any part for any model.
Here is MB classic parts. Note it covers up to 2006. MB Classic Parts

It is correct that the Jaguar Classic Parts program is both robust and efficient in providing parts. But for the record, some dealers -at least dealers in Canada - have no trouble servicing and sourcing parts for older Jaguars. In the last several months my local dealer has serviced for me a 2001 XJR, a 2002 X-Type and a 2015 F-Type - no problems at all.
My dealer in USA still services my 2010 XF and gets parts as needed. No issues.
Ok, I overstated the no parts thing.......but Jaguar USA did tell me they no longer supply parts for cars older than 2015. Perhaps dealers are able to get parts still in stock or generic Ford type parts, but.....the fuel rail for a 2009 Jaguar XF 4.2 NA is NOT available from Jaduar and I have not been able to source one anywhere on the internet. My options are buy a used one from ebay and hope it doesnt leak, or....try to find just the damper valves and try replacing just those (also so far no luck), or...take the rail off and have the damper valve holes welded shut as some have suggested. My local Jag dealer service center will install the ebay part with zero accountability for it. Im disappointed that Jaguar corporate does not continue to distribute fuel rails.
Did you come up with a part number? Once you have the correct one maybe someone can find it?
Looks like maybe AJ811283 which replaced AJ810732? Also see if you can find a Land Rover number? Does the NA take a different part from the SC version? I am afraid it does. So my suggestion below might not be correct?
I do see just the damper at AJ83838 and no stock BUT Terry's Jaguar Parts shows it on back order and waiting on Jaguar. So it might be available in the future. I would give them a call and see if they have any more info too.
Damper is over $200 each!
Keep a sharp eye out on Ebay because these vary in price a lot!
Take a look at this set? It's from a SC car so be aware of that.
More stuff than you need but at $224 and you get both rails and dampers 8 fuel injectors with the electrical harness and the upper intake manifold
Note he has best offer on the auction and these are not parts that have any demand at all. Your the first person I have heard of looking for them so I doubt he has had any interest in them so far.
Another suggestion is to find a wrecked 4.2L car and see if they will remove what you need. So many times they won't strip the car down and label everything. They just state parts car and contact them. This can be a very resonable way to get parts IF they will remove what you need without damage.

closure on this one for now........I did buy a fuel rail with injectors still attached on ebay for $220 and after close inspection, I installed it on the car. The most difficult part of this project was unclipping the fuel rail temp sensor harness at the very back of passenger side rail. Just my luck, either the factory or some or some other mechanic installed that sensor with the harness tab lock on the underside of the harness attachment, making it impossible to see or feel. After being stalemated with that clip for hours, I had the idea to try to raise the rail and injectors enough to be able to pull the rail forward in order to get to the tab lock. That worked, I put everything back together and started the car. No leaks. No codes. So I'm monitoring it closely and if I'm lucky, I get some more miles out of the car before encountering the leaking damper valve scenario again. I saved the old rail assembly with the intention of removing the damper valves to explore sealing them up and having a spare rail assembly in my hands.
Great job but one question as I am not clear on?
Did you buy the SC version fuel rail and it did fit the NA engine too?

The ebay fuel rail I bought was an exact match from another 2009 XF 4.2 NA. Identical......p.s. I am about to start a new thread on this same car, since doing this job I now have mysterious "low battery" warning popping up momentarily when starting that was not there before and with a battery only 12 months old.
