Have any of you placed a full size 18-20" space wheel/tire in the normal spare tire well area? I'm not a fan of doughnuts unless its Krispy Creme and would like to put a full size back there.

18 inch might fit. The UK drivers report variable success and failure getting a full sized tire to fit the well. I've not done it. I doubt it can be done.

Remember that flat tires are extremely rare. I've never had to fit a space saver, ever. That's in all the driving I've done since my first car with a space saver spare, in 1984.

 

Thanks....my experience has been the opposite and have had plenty of flat tires over the last decade (about 8-9). Plenty of junk, nails, and bolts on the roadways here in Albuquerque.

Sounds like I'm gunna have to try to make some accurate measurements and figure this out.

 

That orange spare is horrendous. I had a flat within a week of owning the car and it was pretty embarrassing. The tow truck driver even giggled and took a picture of it. Usually I'd change it myself but those stock lugs are really cheap so one stripped on me (dealer overtightened?). I'd say the trunk isn't deep enough for a stock rim. Spray the doughnut black at least.

 

It's ugly on purpose. It discourages use. I see so many cars running around with these on it's rdqulous. These space saver spares are designed for a one way trip: from where you got the flat straight to a tire repair shop. Period. Unlike a runflat you can do this as many times as you like at max speed of 50 mph and until the tread wears out.

 

Black is still ugly. The orange is a bit overboard. Isn't the orange color required in the UK?

 

I have to agree with you. I see so many people over speeding with those donuts, it scares me. It's even worse when they do 70mph in a rain. I usually get away from them as soon as i can.

 

My favorite thing is to see the folks with a flat spare. Of course they haven't gotten the original flat tire fixed. Too busy I guess. Kind of like driving with the low gas warning on the dash blazing in your face and then running out of gas. How do these folks pass the driving test in the first place ?

 

A full size spare would only fit if you removed the sub-woofer speaker box. Not entirely sure if it would fit once the box was removed. Also the front and rear wheels are different sizes so which size wheel would you want in the trunk?
