Default Gasket and Hose Issue

Hey guys

!

Been a while since I've posted but running into an issue here. The car is cutting in and out, looks like I might have found the problem. The hose that I've circled in red is constricting when the car is running then unconstricting when off. I'm assuming it's not giving the flow through the hose and killing the car. Any inputs on that?

I also attached a pic of a gasket dripping a tad bit of oil in the corner. I looked at how to get to the area and it seems like a fair bit has to come off. Would a gasket sealer of some sort work or should it just be replaced? Does anybody know if either of these are DIY for a novice? About the biggest job I've done is fix the windshield dispenser in the drivers corner, replaced wiper arms with a puller, and oil change.

Thanks in advance. I've had great luck with input here and am trying to keep on her.

It helps to put what car you have but by the pictures I can tell you have an early car with the SC 4.2L V-8?
What error codes does the car have?
That hose is connected to the PCV valve or diaphragm. That's the round thing to the left of the picture that the hose runs into.

Don't see any oil leak? With the 4.2L SC engine it's weak link is a rubber hose that runs under the SC. Cheap hose but expensive labor to change it. Keep an eye out for that!

Whoops, yes 2009xf supercharged with the 4.2l. I didn't let it run long enough to show the oil seeping through the corner of that gasket but it will within a couple minutes.

The gasket is the outlet of the supercharger, the only oil in there will be what makes it's way into the induction system via the PCV system that the other hose is part of, there will likely be a bit of oily muck coating the entire system and it's being blown out via the leaky gasket with some charge air. Forget using goo, buy the gaskets you need and have at it. That top section of the induction system is not at all difficult to dismantle, but if you decide to go one step deeper and take the blower off you are in for a big job.
You may even be able to change that gasket without removing the intercoolers- I can't quite recall- but it probably wouldn't hurt to take the intercoolers off and flush them out at this stage.

A scan of my notes when doing this job a couple of years ago. The ducts that connect thew blower outlet to the intercoolers incorporate their own gaskets so should be replaced when you remove them. If you decide to remove the intercoolers and flush them out, you'll need the gaskets for where the coolers connect to the manifold.

Thanks for the response. Sounds like if I want it done correctly I'll have to bring it in. Seems like a smart idea to blow it out instead of just changing the hose and gasket. Probably in a for a good sized bill but it'll be worth it.

Thanks for the diagram as well. I will forward that the local shop I use.

Okay finally getting around to fixing this. It turns out that the gasket is not leaking and it was from the oil seeping out of that hose while rubbing again the gasket. Does anybody know the part number for the hose replacement that's circle in red? I have been searching for it and can't seem to find it... Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Going to bump this with an update. Replaced the hose but an air leak was still going. Turns out a couple things were apparently going on: The PCV valve was stuck shut and there was a "brake booster vacuum line" that was leaking through a smoke test and a throttle body locking connector was missing. The shop also cleaned out some carbon from the throttle body as well. Basically about $1600 later the air leak was resolved and she runs great. They had to pull off the supercharger apparently to get to a couple of these items but it all seems good now! If anybody is interested, the car is for sale on the forums marketplace. I've been enjoying the hell out of it lately just getting to be hard to justify it when there's so many other cars around here.
