Facelift Camcover Gasket
I have the AJ16 engine.
It seems my camcover gasket only lasts about a year before it starts leaking all over the place.
Ive used both aftermarket and more recently OEM. While the OEM certainly makes for a much better fit, it seems that I can’t get more than a year out of it.
It’s not any one particular point that fails. There’s just an oily residue all around.
I did install an oil catch can that has a long 5/8” rubber hose leading to it, from the camcover, then back to the intake elbow. I make sure that the water or oil that it collects gets emptied regularly. (It traps way more water in the cold
months)
It has kept the throttle body clean. I am concerned that it is the cause of pressure build
up, even though I can’t logically figure out how, unless the catch can was full.

I think I found the problem.
I abandoned the connection to the breather mentioned in the attached Post #13. I didn't think I needed it, so I capped it off. Perhaps I am creating a pressurized environment forcing gases and such to escape through the gasket...

Thanks. I'm gonna tee off the 3/4" hose coming out of the camcover, tie that tee into the 5/16" hose that I previously capped off, and the 5/8" hose that I ran to the oil catch can. That should restore the system to what it was doing before.
