Limp home mode (engine fault, dsc not available, parking brake error)
A couple minutes after starting my 09 XF (non SC) and driving off yesterday I got the dreaded engine/dsc/parking brake fault. The car wouldn't change gears and I couldn't accelerate at all. I stopped the car and shut it down then restarted. At this point the car wouldn't shift out of park and i felt a noticeable engine shudder accompanied by a check engine light. I restarted the car again and it was driveable although the engine fault was still displayed.
I just wanted to get the car to a safe place so I pulled into a parking lot, shut it down and locked the car. Waited 30 seconds and restarted and all was good. Error hasn't reoccurred so far.
Could this be due to excessive draw to the battery? I had all the systems going (AC, sound system, etc) from the time I started the car and was pushing the car pretty hard right from the get go. I swapped the battery out 5 months ago so it's fairly new, although I haven't tested the battery or alternator to verify proper working order.
I've also read that this error could be due to a bad throttle body sensor or perhaps even a bad ground somewhere. Any advice?
Thanks all

First thing to do is fully charge the battery. These cars are power hungry so require a very capable power source to keep them happy.
If you do short journeys or it is particularly cold,I would suggest a smart charger such as the CTEK.
Hope this helps,

I appreciate the feedback
With the CEL having been illuminated, there should be stored codes which will help diagnose the cause.
Great that you got started again and completed your journey but it usually takes more than a doubtful battery or low state of charge to make this occur on an engine at normal operating temperature.
I would have both the battery checked and the codes read.

What you descibed happened 2 or 3 times during the 3+ years that I had a 2009. It is a computer startup glich and is cleared exactly as you mentioned. Moreoften, the climate control AC would not work at startup and that was cleared by just shutting the car down and restarting. Jag issured a software fix at some point to aleviate the AC problem but I can't remember if the engine startup problem occured after that point.

Thanks for the feedback. Everything has been ok the past couple of days (I took a long 125 mile round trip journey yesterday). I'll inquire about the software fix next time I'm at the dealer.
Interestingly enough the dealer just reflashed my tpms software last week. I'll get them to apply all the available software reflashes next time I'm there.

Had the same problem solve it by replacing the battery, hadn't had no issues since !

All has been well for a week and a half now. If the problem persists I'll look into swapping the battery. I just replaced it this past November so it'd be a shame if it went bad so quickly.
Good thing I have an unlimited replacement 5 year warranty on it.
