So, being paranoid as I am now about purchasing my xf I ran my regular code reader on the car and got no codes or errors thrown. So I figured I'd run a full diagnostic scan and bam! Lit up like a tree. Any one else have intermittent codes being thrown?
Those are all old or historic codes. Try to erase everything and read them again. Remember you should always clear the codes because we want to see what the car is currently complaining about.
Very common to have intermittent codes. Same as any network. You have data collisions and voltage sags and surges. Kind of like looking at an event log when troubleshooting a computer. These can all cause errors that may or may not mean anything. Again the key is to erase the codes and see what comes back as this is just standard procedure? You want repeatable codes before you start trying to do any repairs.

Do you have any problems?

driver side seat won't go forward or back, but the other functions on switch work as should, aside from that I have not had any real anomalys, I've had it say key not found but it will always turn over, so I'm thinking it has a gremlin of some sort.
You don't have a scanner that will go that deep into your car.
I use SDD as I have found nothing that reads more stuff.
But it sounds like your car is working pretty well with just a couple of minor issues?
One comment? I HOPE you have more than one key? This is a common failure when buying used cars. You don't want to get caught without a backup key and FOB.

That is a great question and I can only answer with "It depends". No you should not need to replace or reprogram any modules. You only need some new keys and then program them to the car.
Usually this requires SDD but maybe some aftermarket devices can do it too. Now sometimes when you try to get a second key a lock smith will "clone" the original key. Works fine but this does NOT solve the main problem because the car thinks both those keys are same so if something goes wrong now BOTH keys will not work!
On EBay there are hundreds of FOBS/Keys for your XF. Getting them programmed is where all the problems come in. XF Key FOB/Key
Do you have a dealer or independent you can call and ask? The dealers are getting worse and worse so they may just turn you down cold. This type of dealer activity is what drove me to get and use an operating SDD system. Now I don't recommend this unless your willing to spend some time at it. It's a difficult and confusing bunch of software and I have been using it for almost 10 years now.
One last suggestion? We have several guys who can work on your car remotely using SDD and Team Viewer. I have never used them so not sure which one to try?
Maybe someone who has used one of them can add a comment? This was not available way back when I started my SDD journey or I would have given that some serious thought!

hmmm, i wonder if i could sd card the jlr SDD software and run it directly off my autel scanner?
Short answer is no. Needs Windows and that is another can of worms? Which Windows version? 32 or 64 bit or does it matter? Use a virtual machine? Connect to the internet or not? SDD is just a continuing cascade of decisions you need to make. And that's without talking about which version of SDD to use? I have at least 5 full versions and I really don't know what the differences are?
There is no "one" setup either. Many ways to get things working and be very careful with internet experts who claim their way is the only way to go. That's just not true.
I use Win7 Pro 64 bit on a dedicated old laptop. I run NOTHING but SDD on it! Believe me when I say I have learned my lesson about that! I connect to the internet and have downloaded tens of thousands of update files. My SDD folder is many GB's at this point! But things also keep changing as I just heard Jaguar has shut down some old SDD servers? I have not connected my SDD to the internet to check that out yet. So I hope I am not shut down as Jaguar has now moved past SDD onto Pathfinder which requires 100% of the time for you to be logged in and paying Jaguar for access.
One thing to remember is SDD is for the Jaguar factory tech's. Never released to the public in any form. So it's updated mainly for the cars that are currently still under warranty. After the car falls off that Jaguar makes little to no updates to SDD for the older cars. I have a 2014 so SDD has not had any real updates for my car for a long time. I am hoping if the internet access is now cut off that I have downloaded all the files I will need to service my car. That's just a hope and a guess!

interesting, i have found many diffrent jlr SDD files and software online, some from free downloads to having to pay upwards of 400 for it. Assuming I'm correct the sdd just allows you to go indepth into each module and do full diagonstic readings almost like looking at plc latter logic? I know on my scanner, will take seat not working for example. My scanner picked up both seat modules but they both passed, I'm assuming this is because there was no drop in power or it did not find any thing that would conflict with the scan. It just sucks there isnt a by pass hardware ive been able to find that will aloow for simalier full scale diagnostics.
SDD has never been a commercial product nor ever released publicly. There is no charge for SDD and the ones that are charging are all after market folks trying to make a buck. Nothing wrong with that just understand they are NOT Jaguar suppliers!
Now I have posted this a number of times?
But our friends from the UK have full images of various versions of SDD for download? Real easy way to try some things out too.
Tale a look; Full SDD Images
That thread is now 17 pages and will give you an idea how complicated the whole SDD issue is. Just a quick search on this forum brings up over 500 threads on SDD!
Now we do also have a long thread on what after market scanners people are using and that would be worth a look too? Folks don't want to read but it is mandatory if you want to understand things. Yes it's another long running and multi-page thread because the scanners keep changing all the time! Recommended Jaguar Scanners
