Default Lock mechanism replacement

Hi guys,

I need to replace the driver's side front door lock on my XF 2013 3.0 diesel.
I am trying to find out if it is the single plug or double plug mechanism.
I'm sure someone said there were diagrams on here to look through but I can't find them.

Any ideas please?

If you have keyless entry you will have little black rubber buttons on all the outside handles, if you have this, you need the 2 multiplug type.
No buttons then just the one multiplug.

Perfect, thank you.
I need the 2 plug one.
I will search the forum on how to do the job when I get one.

You could probably save yourself a fair bit of coin by just replacing the little electric motors inside the lock mechanism, they seem to be the usual failure and once you have the lock mechanism out it isn't much more work to dismantle them and replace the two little motors. There's no soldering involved, the motors have elelctrical tabs on them that push into the lock assembly. I just did this on my passenger front door, second lock to fail in 2 years. I bought this pair of motors, not the cheapest on the bay but the others all had plastic gears which made me shy away.

Hi,
Thanks for the advice but this item is from China and says it doesn't post to the UK.

I got a whole mechanism, new and will be delivered on Thursday for £50 Inc delivery. I'm ok with that and will do the job myself.

I did exactly that yesterday, and replaced the 2 motors rather than the complete unit...This video (rear door, but i would think front is very similar) was very usefull.

It is not something I have done before so all tips welcome...
I read somewhere that bringing the window down an inch or so is helpful as well before starting the job.

I was the first time for myself as well..... just follow the video step by step. I found it a bit tricky to get the door lock mechanism out of the door frame. Don't force it to much though, it does come out with a bit of persuation.
Bringing the window down a bit simply helps at putting the window regulator mechanism back in place....See video around 8:30.

When you are done, don't close the door.... Test everything is good first by simulating closing/opening with small round bar e.g. screwdriver, and remote control... I had not re-attached the door lock cable correctly!

Yep definitely drop the window an inch or so first- I forgot to do that the other week and releasing the window mechanism was a pain. Use some masking tape to hold the window up, take the window mechanism out, this gives much more room to get the lock out (still difficult). for the little touch-lock switch, there's a 'service position' that enables unplugging that connector- if you don't know about it (as I didn't the first time) that little task is a nightmare.

Are you talking about the touch lock button on the door handles or something else that has a service position?

The touch lock button. Kevin's photos show it well. I wrestled for ages trying to undo the one in my back door last year.

Just a quick update...
I replaced the front drivers door lock today and it went very well.
I was lucky enough to have the use of my friends garage so had the right tools to hand, including a tool to pop the poppers around the bottom of the door card which were stronger than I anticipated.

Thank you guys for all your input, I couldn't have done it without you, even getting the right replacement part which incidentally has about 7 different part codes, depending on the vehicle but still the same part.
The Jaguar searched part code was about £75 but the same part for land rover I got for £50 delivered.

Thanks again guys...

By the way, dropping the window about 6-7 inches before you start is the way to go as it is easier to release the window clips inside the door.
