That is weird since a splitter is required to separate the joint due to the circlip retainer. Plus the axle can hardly pull out since the distance between the diff and the hubs is shorter than the total length of the axle shaft.

Maybe it's a noise issue? The half shaft plunge must occur all at the hub end splines if the diff end is locked in.

Not sure why they are saying the diff or axle is worn…….I guess they figured maybe id just bend over and pay them 10K to put in a new diff?

Hoping to get it all pulled apart on Tuesday when the Ford seal comes in. I will inspect the axle when it is out and see if anything looks worn. I pulled the plug yesterday and have ZERO metal on the magnet so I find it hard to believe that anything is worn. If so where did all the metal go…...

I thought the issue was the stub axle bearing failed causing the seal to leak. You may find damage to the axle or diff itself. I wish you the best of luck. Please keep up posted.

I dont understand how I could have damage to the axle or diff if the bearing has no issue........if the axle od diff were worn Id think it would put the hypoid gear set out of alignment causing it to make a ton of noise if not rip itself up??

If the diff isn't making noises I expect it will be fine with a new seal.

Bearing failure should cause noise from the diff as soon as the bearing fails.

I agree if bearing failed it would be very notisable by the noise. Also if the axle was worn it would no longer be solid in the bearing and I would think due to the hypoid gears backlash requirements they would start to make some noise as well.

Car seems to be driving just fine right now outside of the leak.....I took it up north on the weekend after i toped it up and it was fine no issue 300km round trip

Groove on the driveshaft? That doesn't sound right...

Can you post a pic? Does it look like a groove that was caused by wear?

yes groove was caused by wearing on the seal.......Ive seen this on hydraulic pumps in the past that have missalignment in the shaft, inccorrect shaft seals, or lack of lubrication.

It is deffinetaly leaking due to the groove. Also do not have a new seal to put in

Iam thinking about filling groove with weld and centrifical grinding it back to stock size. However this groove would not be caused by regular wear and tear i dont think......I have to believe the root cause is something bigger

I kind of hate to recommend it but consider a Speedy Sleeve repair?

SKF Speedi-Sleeve

the sleeve will just wear eventually also. The root cause has to be some play in the bearing thats allowing the axle to spin eccentric that is all i kind think of. Axle feels a little more sloppy on the worn side.

I wonder if you got the right seal from Ford...

Here's the pic of the Jag seals

They had that Ford number marked on the seal...

We were always told the diff was non serviceable. This just reconfirms what Jaguar told us all along. Have you considered finding a used diff? You could try Coventry West.

I was trying to show you that most believe it was a fluid contamination that cause the diffs to fail. Also, there was a link to a Quaife option which is going to be a much better solution vs. another Jag diff if you end up having to get another diff:

Jaguar Quaife Differential Install ? Jacks Transmissions

If you want a Jag diff for the 2009 XF Supercharged. I found quite a few listed on www.car-parts.com under "carrier".

Bummer. My info is that the replacement updated diff also requires new axle shafts which is why the upgrade is so expensive.

Does the Quaife diff come complete? Generally you only get the Torsen cage from Qaife and you need a diff to put it in, no?
