been looking and havent found like definitive answers soo....
with down time decided to do some upkeep on the 12 xf..
replaced cabin filter, wipers, engine filters, gonna change oil and oil filter
couple things..
the oil got some 5w20 pennzoil platinum but maybe should've got the extreme but well just wondering if its up to spec, and ill post a pic with the specs on back of the jug so just wondering if its good enough, it was pretty good price thru Walmart 2 of them came out to 40 bucks for the 5 qt size
the cabin filter got it thru amazon for 8 bucks, fit great but it dodnt have any kind of airflow arrows on it so who knows if its backward.. and would it make a difference?
got rainx wipers thru amazon as well , easy install 28 bucks for both
engine filters got some champion ones thru amazon also, 30 bucks and the oil filter stp extra life for 13 at autozone
to remove the airfiters sucked, no release clips but alot of small torx type screws and the oil filter wrench tool should be i thnk the 83mm in got a 90 and too big so next size down
i would've got this stuff thru rockauto but damg the shipping was gonna get crazy on each thing so would've ended up double what it was thru amazon and i got most stuff in 3 days
well i guess im glad for the downtime to do these things
soon will have to be the brakes
gonna change oil in a few mins using a holt fluid extractor
well I guess back to questions i had ..
is using the pump extractor good?
does it really matter about the cabin filter?
and ill post the specs of the pennzoil if its good enough
Jaguar recoemnds the 0W-20 for the 3.0 and 5.0 SC engines
JLR STANDARDS ACEA C5 SPECIFICATIONS JAGUAR LAND ROVER – STJLR.51.5122 for the Supercharged engines.
As well as GL-5
I only see the following on the Pennzoil A5/B5-10, A5/B5-12 (SAE 5W-30, SAE 10W-30*)
thanks for the info on that , i wish i had the SC engine, i have the 5.0 NA portfolio , i dont have owners manual so i go buy what i can find on the net and these kinda forums.
have read that theres no real info on what oil meets or exceeds that standard but most places ive read and researched stated this was a very decent oil for the jag at 5w20.. almost made a mistake of putting 5w30 in it; it was mobil 1 and got it at a great price for the 5qt jug for 2 for barely over 40 bucks but then I reread it amd was 30 not 20 🤦🏻♂️
so little by little im getting stuff i need for later maintenance, probably by emd of the year ill need brakes , or well now with the self imposed lockdowms and etc i wont even need them by then
You were close on the Pennzoil. You need the Ultra Platinum to meet the spec.
ty
does it make a huge difference or any difference really betweent the 2?
I just know what i get from these types of forums etc.
it was just that I read that the spec i underlined on the bottle was an updated version for the specs for the jaguar
I did a ton of reading here and elsewhere on the net about the spec and didn't find anything definitive.
Conclusions (opinions?) I have formed from the research:
If you want to go 15,000 between oil changes, you need to use the right spec.
There was a thread where it was discussed that Jaguar has a patent on something timing related and the oil spec had something to do with keeping that part of the engine functioning properly. Beyond that thread, I couldn't find anything to back up the claim.
945B did not replace 925A. When 925A expired, JLR swapped to their own specifications: STJLR.51.5122 for 0w20
STJLR.03.5004 for 5w20
On the newer engines (2014+ I think?), JLR recommends 0w20. This is what the dealership will put in your car if they do an oil change for you.
As near as I could tell, the only oils available in the US that meet the spec are Castrol Edge Professional (only available at the dealership) or Pennzoil Ultra Platinum. There are a number of European brands that you can order from Amazon that also meet the spec.
Personally, I don't think you'll do any harm running the Pennzoil Platinum in your car. I wouldn't try to do 15,000 miles on it, though.
awesome info
yea i really dont drive over the 15k or come close to it if i do some traveling
but was thinking of maybe within 6 months to change oil again and get or try to get the right spec oil which i guess now will be the ultra
i really dont even trust my dealer to fix things
had some tpms probs and they said they'd replace the sensor which i only think they reset the system because ive had the same problems with it again, took to another place and it was replaced

Pennzoil platinum is an zwesome oil, use a high quality oil with the right additives and you will be ok. 5W-20 vs 5W-30 are negligible ( check out bobistheoilguy.com) The 30 weight would be good in summer ( I would avoid in winter) and good expecailly if you push the card hard in warmer temps

cool cool
getting better informed here everyday than asking the dealership which used lots of vagueness in info when asking
glad for these kinda sites...
i guess ill be good for at least 6 months using the platinum then after ill look for the ultra on sale or whatever else thats for spec
also do yall know about the cabin filter? as i stated it didnt have arrows for airflow so does that make a diff if it was backward?

Pennzoil ultra is not readily availalbe in the states is it ANd thier SPEC oil is the one that matches JLR
I would never run an oil for any more that 7500 miles (half the OCI that Jaguar recommends) I run may cars up to about 250K miles (or until I hit a deer)
I wasn't able to find it locally, but had no problem getting it delivered from Amazon. I pulled that PDF above from the Pennzoil website, where it shows that it meets the spec.
Agreed. 15,000 is a long time to be running on the same oil.
yea the ultra i haven't been able to find it readily unless it was thru walmart not really amazon but i guess i pulled the trigger a little too early and should've waited to get the ultra but now i know what to look out for in a out 6 months or so when i do this again
well just finished the oil change and from the first pump from the extractor it took less than 10 mins to empty the sump.. what took longest was to remove the oil filter,
made it quick running the engine about 10 mins, let it settle about 5 and went to work.. when it emptied, i poured about .5 qt let it go down and pumped again till it all came out again and it was pretty clear so i knew it was empty with the new oil coming out... and thing is I wasn't on even ground
better than having to get under the car and remove all the covers down there etc etc.. i recommend it got mine at harbor freight for about 77 bucks
thanks for the info and help yall! this saved me for now about maybe 150 bucks and next time will be alot more since my dealer had sent me a coupon for a 200 dollar "maintenance" which was oil change and filter and service reset lol... so id say its an easy 2 to 300 savings per which aint bad
