Default Mud Flaps - Yes or No?

I just took delivery of a 2012 XF Portfolio. The car has the Ultimate Black exterior and the London Tan interior. I'm really excited about it.

So the question is whether I should put on the Mud Flaps.

What do you think?
How do they look on this car?
Do they really protect the car?
Have you put them on yours?

Thanks for your input.

Ken

Yes, they look fine and will be unobtrusive on a black car,yes and yes. For winter they are excellent.

Default I vote no.

I live in Wisconsin which has a much harsher climate than Jersey but not as cold as Canada. Don't need them. I thinks it looks added on and takes away from the lines of a the car. Would you put mudflaps on a Porsche or a Corvette? Come on this is a hot car not a Ford Crown Victoria. They pave and plow the roads in Jersey or did that Jumbo Governor take that away in the name of a wasteful government program?

I agree!!!

I rather pay $400 and get a rear bumper resprayed every 3 years, than have mud flaps on.

They're mud pie collectors, rot inducing good for nothing plastic crap. Unless you're entering the World Rally Championship, no use on a Jaguar.

They do not collect anything. On the contrary, they reduce collection of crud on the car, particularly on the front doors.

The unfortunate positioning of the rear mufflers means the mudflaps cannot prevent crud from accumulating on the leading face of each rear muffler, which is where most of the crud accumulates on all XF models.

Oh yes, and they are synthetic rubber material and very durable.

Forgot to mention... just remember if you do put them on the car and decide to take them off a month later because you don't like it, you are going to have scuff marks/scratches on the front fender and the rear bumper cover due to the mud flaps rubbing on them.

End result will be some noticeable paint damage.

No offense to anyone but mud flaps on a Jaguar belong about as much as a gun rack on a moped.

I'm in agreement that mud flaps do not belong on the car. I had interest in them until I saw how they looked on the XF and they no longer appealed to me.

If it snows where you drive you need them. If it doesn't snow, you don't. However, they look fine and work very well to protect particularly the front doors from flying debris. They are also polite to following drivers if you drive where they sand the roads or if you drive in heavy rain.

Mud flaps, door strips, excess chrome on any high end European sedan is a definite no no. Please don't do it. I'm not too crazy about the taped on rear spoiler that the XFR comes with either.
