Default Nav Update 2011/2012

Just wanted to let anyone interested know that I just purchased the 2011/2012 discs for the nav system in my 2010 my XF Premium. Included was a software update, along with updated maps. Dare I say it, but the nav system seems to be more useful and is actually giving meaningful routing information now (the previous 2008/2009 version was quite useless).

For the record, I inserted the disk and when I started the car it showed a prompt that it would be doing a software update which would take 15 minutes. The nav option is greyed out while the update is taking place. The update seemed to go without issue and the result is a usable nav system plus updated maps.

The $199 seemed to be worth it.

I also got the 2011/2012 maps. I went through the same process as whitbyxf, but mine took much longer (30 minutes) and never finished. I could have bricked it I'm sure, but luckily it resumed on my drive in and somehow fixed itself.

Definitely be patient during this process. I never used my previous maps because it didn't have my address, but now it does and it is definitely useful.

Where do you get the disc? Does it solve any other Nav issues, compared to 2010 and earlier versions? I cannot stand "Road restrictions may apply, please obey . . . " over and over again.

I bought mine straight from Navteq: Jaguar navigation - Update your Jaguar sat nav maps.

No idea if it solves any issues as I just got it for the updated maps.

I got mine from Jaguar (they sent me a letter with a reminder) with a so called offer ($199 instead of whatever it cost before) that expired at the end of February. You can go to their web site or NavTeq to get the same offer at the moment. You can also get it from your local dealer according to the flyer.

Since I never had the same issues as you seem to have had, I am not sure that it will cure it. However the routing algorithms seem to work much better (not routing me on ridiculous round trips home) and the screen layouts seems to be altered. Other options have changed. Maps are up to date (roads built 5 years ago are now on the maps!!).

Sorry one more question, how can you tell if I have the 2008/09 version, or is that the only version that was available, i.e. 2010 models have the 08/09 version? I looked at the disks. They have the date on them. Since there are two, you do not have eject the one in the player in the trunk, you can look at the label on the one that is not in use.

Quick question: Do the maps appear to be any different? The price is nice, though!

I have a 2011 XF and when I looked for an update toward the end of last year, (since a year old toll bridge across a nearby lake is missing), there was no update available. But yesterday there was so I ordered it. I'm hoping the road will now be shown, as I hate driving across water.

The are more up to date and have more details in the area where I live. Not sure whether they look any different. I stopped using the old system some time ago because it was not much use, so I have forgotten how they looked.

sorry to revive an old thread.

I just installed the 2011/12 update disc on my '09 XF and everything went smoothly but I see the interface wasn't updated to resemble the system interface on the newer 2012 model vehicles.

Does anyone know if its possible to get a software update to change the interface, or is the operating system specific to the navigation system that comes with each model year? Thanks.

No you can not update the infosystem. It is like operation system on a computer. The DVD update only the map update for navigation.

Thanks for the info. It's surprising that jag doesn't release OS software updates for the info system.

Yes, I certainly agree that it would be nice to be able to update the XF OS!

I had this problem for several months after I got my car (2010 model that I bought in August 2009) and it drove me crazy. Finally, in January 2010, they came up with the 2009-2010 nav disc set (Jaguar part no. 6W83-10E898-BF) which solved this issue. I guess my car came with the 2008-2009 disc set ( I don't remember now). Note that this was handled as a warranty claim and I paid nothing for the new disc set, so I got an "update" for free.

Did you discuss this issue with the dealer? At this point, it is a known issue, but like other known issues, since it's not a safety issue, they won't do anything until you bring it to their attention.

If I were you, I would call them and complain about it. There's likely to give you the new disc set for free under warranty. Since the 2009-2010 disc set fixed the problem, I'm certain the even newer one will as well. Good luck and let us know what happens.
