Hello everyone. First time poster here. I’ve searched the forums here in effort to resolve my current issue and I can’t find a post that fits my problem exactly. There is one thread that describes a similar, but not exactly the same issue as mine. That thread is Viyasan7’s and can be found here:
^The DTC in that thread was B1009-62, mine are different and I’ll describe them below.
Background:
I have a 2013 Jaguar XF 3.0 AWD. When I first got the car, it had one key. A few weeks ago, the ECO start/stop unavailable message appeared and I traced that problem to a bad auxiliary (2nd) battery. When I had the auxiliary battery out, I decided to go ahead and replace the main battery as well since it was greater than 5 years old. So, for a time, both batteries were disconnected and out of the car. So, I replaced the auxiliary battery with the popular Exide EK151 as well as the main battery. After installing the new batteries and connecting them, the ignition would not turn on. I got the “Smart Key Not Found” message. Apparently, the one key I had lost sync.
What I’ve done (in order):
-I tried the keyless start backup, but that didn’t work.
-I connected the car to SDD and ran the Smart Key Health Check and other security related service functions. (SIDE NOTE: it is annoying that some of the SDD security service functions ask you to cycle the ignition on and off. When someone is trying to troubleshoot a security problem, it is unlikely that one can turn the ignition on. Some of the security service functions will cycle the ignition for you, but not all).
-I ran the “check all antennas” service function. All antennas reported OK.
-I decided to purchase two new keys and start over. I ran the “Security – Replace faulty/lost keys” service function. This service function basically “wipes” the KVM and at the end, asks you to one-by-one add two “virgin” keys. The “Security – Replace faulty/lost keys” completed successfully, however, even though I can now see that the two new keys are programmed in the KVM (see figure 1 and figure 2), they are not synced/seen by the instrument cluster (see figure 3 and 4). I still get the “Smart Key Not Found” message in the instrument cluster.
Other information:
I have SDD V160. When SDD cycled the ignition as part of some of its service functions, everything came on as it should (including the instrument cluster – see figure 5).
I do have two DTCs. They are:
B109E-51: Remote Keyless Entry – Not Programmed
Possible Cause: Keyless vehicle module is not configured correctly*
*I find it odd that this is a possible cause. The KVM is responding as I’ve shown in the pictures. Perhaps it means it isn’t talking to the BCM? I tried running the immobilization service function, but it failed. I believe it failed because I couldn’t cycle the ignition to position 2 (on) when prompted. I wish SDD would take control and cycle the ignition for me here.
What I think I need to do and questions I have:
I need to get the immobilization routine to work. In order to get this to work, I have to find a way to cycle the ignition on and off. Is there a way to do this in SDD that isn’t built into a routine/service function? Like maybe in a menu somewhere that I can manually turn the ignition on and off via SDD? If I can’t get the immobilization service function to work, is there another way to (a different service function) that will get the instrument cluster to “see” the keys?
Thanks John. My problem is I can't fully run the immobilizer. Like Viyasan7, when I run the Immobilization Service Function, at the end it states "Failed to write to target identifier". When running the Immobilization Service Function the car controls ignition on it's own, the last step it asks me to place the car into ignition (which I can't) and then fails to write to target identifier.
Thanks Tomy49492. I read through it and the problem sounds similar to mine. Unfortunately, the thread ends without someone coming back and posting how they fixed the issue. I will eventually get my issue figured out and I will 100% come back here and post the fix. I haven't had time to mess with it and will be traveling for the next few days. Hopefully in a week or two I can come back here and detail how I fixed it.
The central locking still doesn't work, and the outside temperature displayed on the cluster is WAY off...it read like 8 degrees F when in fact it was closer to 75 degrees F. No worries, I'll dig into that more now that the car is no longer a brick.

I have the exact same issue as you. My battery died so I put a new battery and now does not start. Say able to find smart key. My car has been sitting like that for a couple months. I order mongoose cable and jlr v160. What windows would be the best to run the program? Thinking of buying an old laptop with windows xp or 7.

Tomy, no need to buy an old laptop. I ran Windows 7 virtually through my Windows 10 laptop using Virtual Box. The trickiest part was getting the USB pass through to work. Follow this guide to install VB and Windows 7:
Thank you. I got my car up and running. Did you ever get the unlock/lock fixed on your car?
Yes, I believe I ran the immobilizer function after setting up the instrument cluster as a new module.
Tomy, check to see if your steering wheel tilt and telescope work. They probably don't if you setup your instrument cluster as a new module. Mine didn't. You'll need to run the steering column calibration service function if it doesn't work. Make sure you have the column number before starting that service function. Look by the spare tire for a sticker that has a 06xxxxxxxxxx number on it.
