Default Oil drops

Just started to see a small patch of oil on my garage floor under the XF. Not much volume. It appears to be dripping off the bottom of this suspension component by the front-right wheel

Which piece of suspension is this? And any potential source of oil / fluid leak near or above it? I can't see anything from top of engine bay and not crawled underneath yet (it's wet today!)

Any takers? Does anyone know if this lower control arm bushing is all rubber or is it hydraulic / oil filled? If the latter that could be the source. More likely something above it is leaking

Have seen a few posts online about a transmission fluid line that can leak from above it. Wondering if that's it. Need to get the wheel off and jack it up to get a better view.

Put some card under the engine bay to monitor the drops. But nothing new in past 36 hours. Strange...

I believe the only component with oil in it on the suspension would be the damper/shock.

A long shot but the 5.0 engine has a gear driven oil pump mounted low on the front of the engine. It has 2 screws and an O-ring. Check that it's not dripping. I think to see it from under the car the lower under body panel has to be removed. I usually put my hand down there to see if anything is oily as you can reach it from the top of the engine.

As I said this is a long shot but quick to check.

Thanks everyone. Yes / that does look like a crack but it's actually a join where one (slightly rusty) part is joined onto another

Think the bushing is part number C2Z5119. Can't tell if it's oil filled and was leaking perhaps. The XK apparently had an oil filled 'hydrabush' which would leak.

Nothing leaked since the weekend. Will jack up the front this weekend and take a proper look

If it is the bushing is that a DIY job? Have tools and jacks etc but not a lift.

I'll report back!

The bushing is just rubber. However the engine mounts are hydraulic, could it be dropping from there?

Actually that is not an oil pump, it is a vacuum pump for the brake servo driven off the front of the third camshaft and not near the front suspension.

Opps your right! It always leaks oil so that's what I was thinking. It's the vacuum pump with a hose to your brake booster. It has 2 possible leak points. Oil goes everywhere when this starts leaking too.

I think they call that the "Banana" arm. Bushing is replaceable but some like to replace the entire arm because of problems pressing the bushings in/out on Aluminum arms. Others say just take care and you can press them in and out without damaging the arm itself. I have seen those fluid filled ones and when they leak it's usually kind of a weird color and yours looks like engine oil?

But it's not fluid filled according to kansanBrit so the drips can't be from the bushing? Do they come back if you clean them off?

That's what I thought too. But I talked to the dealer and they say it is just rubber

I don't have any visible leaking onto the floor. But I can still feel oil on that suspension bushing. I'm guessing dropping off something above. I have it going to the dealer next week to investigate

I also noticed on the garage floor some dried blue staining in a similar area. See photo. I'm thinking it might just be spilled washer fluid but will have them look around

I'll report back!

Ok - full diagnostic today. Kansanbrit - you and I were right that the "fully rubber" bushing on the lower front control arm is in fact a hydraulic bushing that is worn and leaking. That's the drops of fluid I can see on it. So control arm needs replacement.

Unfortunately on further investigation the little patch of oil on the garage floor is a small leak from the main crankcase seal. A more involved (and expensive) job to repair. And not an issue I can recall seeing here

The blue patch is screen wash fluid - apparently no leak there, just a bit overfilled (user error...)

Go one oil grade thicker and your crank leak may go away. Slightly thicker oil is better for a worn engine anyway. I run 0/30 in mine.
