Hi, I bought a 2015 Jaguar XF 2.0T, and it’s having issues holding a charge. It gives be the message “battery not charging” but it definitely is as it will be completely dead, jumped and ran for enough time to charge up the batteries a bit and then shut off, will hold a charge for about 30 mins and then be completely dead again. I was just looking in the battery compartment and noticed that there is mounting brackets “no wiring” for the second smaller battery but it’s not there. Could the previous owner have taken it out for some reason or are there some models that don’t have them. It’s also throwing a bunch of codes, some related to the fact that I have a faulty ABS sensor, but a bunch more for things like camshaft position sensor fault, camshaft sensor 1 etc. I read up on those codes and a lot of people are saying that can often be caused by bad battery voltage which checks out because I know these cars freak out when there’s not good voltage. Am I supposed to have 2 batteries? Also do I have to do some kind of reprogramming if I put a new battery in it? Thanks in advance!

Drove it for about 5 hours last night and still wouldn’t hold a charge or wouldn’t charge?
You have the very lowest end XF with the tiny 4 cylinder. Are you sure that model came with the start/stop system? It might not have? That bracket is in every car I have seen.
You also might not have the BMS either?
As always with these cars get a new battery before going too deep into the repairs. Do you know the age of the battery? Because it appears from your pictures that you still have the factory battery which means your WAY over due to replace it! So you might have a simple fix?
The factory batteries can last a VERY long time as my 2014 XJR factory unit lasted 10+ years and I only changed it because well it WAS 10 years old!
Let us know if a new battery gets you going?

So I bought a new battery as advised, which it was definitely due, but I’m still getting the battery not charging light. I believe it has something to do with whatever the heck this is. It seems like it should sit inside the terminal clamp assembly but I don’t know how to line it up and there seems to be nothing to clamp it?

That thing is the guts of the BMS (Battery Management System) module and it is FUBAR, no wonder the battery is not charging!
You are gonna need a new module and I have no idea how much that will cost or where to get one from.
Be prepared to pay through the nose for one from any JLR dealership.
Thanks for the pic! As noted above it's clearly broken.
I believe the part number is C2Z16597.
Yep, that's it!
A quick search brings up this: https://parts.harperjaguar.com/oem-p...l-end-c2z16597
So not all that expensive and it seems to be a doddle to fit, literally plug and play.
Worst case scenario is that it will need to be reconfigured by a JLR dealership = more $ and inconvenience.
Edit - forgot to add - it appears that the module was smashed by whoever fitted the new battery so you may be able to get recompense from them, especially if it was a JLR dealership. But if you did it yourself obviously no come back!
Edit 2 - it looks like whoever removed the old battery simply undid the negative terminal clamp without undoing/removing the negative cable nut which bolts onto the BMS module, then yanked/twisted the cable and hey presto one smashed BMS module.

Appreciate the help guys! I threw the new battery in myself, I’m a pretty handy guy I’ve been wrenching on cars since I was a kid but the module wasn’t even inside the terminal clamp in the first place so I assume the previous owner but have wrecked it as he had a sub wired into the back. So that part # is for the clamp or the module, the link brings me to a the clamp but I would also need the module correct?
EDIT - for some reason the link was showing me a negative battery cable, but I searched the part number and found what you guys are talking about, the module is attached to the battery clamp so I’ll just have to bolt on the new clamp to the cable and plug it in. Easy stuff thankyou
Hey great find!
Sometimes it is a simple fix if you just take a look. Hope you can report back after the repair? Should fix it but you just never know. Hopefully no other damage was done by the previous owner?
