Default Performance catalytic converters?

Looking to add some performance and sound to my 2009 XF SC without breaking the bank...any thoughts or has anyone added to their existing system? Currently have Mina exhaust on the back end.
After test driving the new F type 550 HP ..WOW would like to duplicate that sound !!!!

If you search the XK(R) forums there were a good number of posts about using aftermarket cats. In general, people found them TOO LOUD and a number of error codes were displayed as the result of the altered exhaust. If I remember correctly a number of those people decided to go back to the stock cats.

I know what you mean but I have a 2005 STR with the same drive train as you.

The 5.0L motor is just better all the way around. Better power, Better gas mileage and better sound!

I don't think we can do much to the old 4.2L that will bring it anywhere near the 5.0L.

Thanks AXR6- spoke to my Speed Tech....he advised to go straight pipes- replace Cats and put Elbows for o2 sensors...no codes and ecu will handle....increase some sound high end and some HP .

Have you ever daily driven a catless car? I have, it's a little aggressive. Granted mine was a heavily built cammed boxer engine with a huge turbo and open wastegate dump tubes...so there was nothing quiet about it. But a catless V8 generally is going to be extremely loud and drone like crazy. Keep that in mind if you've never gone that route with your exhaust before.

WRX- Thanks....Had a few Z28's without cats and flowmasters....so some exoerience there...but yeah...not looking for heavy drone....just some HP and bit of noise...I think it wil breath a bit better with open cats on a SC.
Just drov the F-type 550 HP....wow what a sound!

Nice, yeah you know what you are getting into then! If you end up doing it, take a video and post it up here if you think about it. I would love to hear what a catless Jag sounds like :P

Just take one drive in a 5.0L and you will soon forget that the 4.2L even existed!

It's just so much better in every way!

Hard to believe the 4.2L SC made 390HP and the NA 5.0L makes 385HP.

The 4.2L SC in the 09 XF makes 420hp... The S-type R had the 390hp version. Aston Martin's V8 Vantage uses the same casting as the Jag 4.2L. They increased bore and stroke bringing the engine size up to 4.7L. That NA 4.7L made 420hp. Here is a cool rebuild thread on the 4.7L I found while searching for info online.

Since the Aston Martin 4.3/4.7 motors are similar to the 4.2L it is possible that a set of aftermarket headers would bolt up to the Jaguar 4.2L:
http://www.quicksilverexhausts.com/s...alysts/670.htm

Even if they did bolt up there's no way to know if they'd fit in the XF engine bay. It's likely power gains would be more substantial in the 4.2L SC vs. a NA Aston Martin.
