Default Retrofitting 2012 XFR front end to pre 2012 model

Hello Members,

A quick question: Has anyone attempted to or inquired if it is possible to retrofit the 2012 XFR (or XF for that matter) front (headlamps, hood, etc.) to a pre 2012 model XFR (XF)?

What would it involve? I know that people have done this to pre 2008 XJRs with the 2008+ XJR face - maybe Jaguar kept it simple enough to do so with the XFR.

Thank you for you input!

I snapped some shots of the 2012 headlight connector and mounting tabs and noted they are the same as my 2009. I couldn't believe the headlight connector was identical. I figured that would have changed with the addition of the LED strip. The wires appeared to be identical as well. All the fender mounts appear to be the same. I'd bet it's do-able. You'd have to swap the hood, fenders, bumper and lights. I figure if I ever crunch the front end or find some cheap 2012 parts I'd look into it. Both of those scenarios are pretty unlikely though.

An alternate cheap/easy idea would be to cover the headlight bulge on the 2009 with some black tint (or matching paint I suppose). Run a small strip on the head light to cut the lights similar to the 2012 lights. It would be similar to a eyelid people add to other cars. It sounds tacky but it might be worth a try.

Something like this:

Thank you for the feedback - by the sound of your post it appears doable. Thanks again.

I was actually thinking about these a couple days ago with a 2012 model parked behind me on the highway. My car is vapor grey so id have to get my buddy to paint them for me. Maybe ill do this the same time I install the rear spoiler.

Wouldn't it be cheaper, easier to sell your car and buy a '12? By the time you add up parts and labor, it has to be much more cost effective to just swap the entire car, wouldn't it?

It may not be cheaper if you are buying a pre owned XF - just saw a 2010 XFR with under 10K miles asking $54K - that's almost $30K off original price - at that price you can spend an additional $500, $600, even $2K and come out on top. This is the bittersweet relationship with Jags - great cars that are actually well priced against the competition but that take a ridiculous hammering in the secondary market. They always have and still do today (although I feel it is somewhat unjustified with todays models). Although remember; if the model/design plans holds true, the all aluminum XF will be here in under 2 years, and what will that do to the now steel bodied XF? I for one think it will farther devalue these cars.
