Thinking about a 09 XF
Good Evening All,
I have been looking at a black 09 XF with 30K miles. Anyway I love the looks, and drive of the car, but am worried about the reliability. I have been told with the new generation Jags things have been taken care of. I have been reading up on edmunds.com and it seems that people have horror story after horror story. I wanted to get some opinions from people that maybe have a better veiw, or hear the truth. Also does anybody drive in snow/ice. Can you get around with snow tires and the winter package? Any help would be great!
Thanks!

Welcome to the forum. I have a 11 XFSC and haven't had problems with it with about 4k plus miles. Your question has been asked before. Try doing a forum search. The 09 had a few specific issues. Others with more knowledge will chime in.
I had a 2009 XF S/C that I drove for nearly 40K miles until I traded it last year for a 2012 XF S/C. During that time the only real failure I had was a mirror motor. Of the known common problems with the 09, I had to replace the rear brake pads at about 32K miles due to excessive wear, but not the rotors. The fuel filler door began to stick at 36K miles and was cured by the dealer. The transmission selector was replaced by recall at 20K miles, but I never had a problem with it before the recall. Currently, I have about 7K miles on the 2012 with no problems.
I never used the 09 in the winter unless the roads were clear. I have a truck I use for winter weather driving. However, a number of folks on this forum, including several Canadians, report that they have no problems with snow or ice if the XF is equipped with proper snow tires.

Welcome. I have recently purchased a 2009 XF Premium with the 20" Selena's and am using all seasons. The picture attached is what I woke up to on Friday and it has been snowing here since. We have gotten a bit more than 12" since then. The XF has been out every day and has been going through regular travelled streets with ease. I did get stuck this morning on a crescent which hadn't been driven on or plower but it was a lose lose position and ended up in a foot or more drift of snow next to another vehicle that was stuck. Oh well couple guys came and helped push me out and it was fine from there on.
My review of the winter mode on the car mixed with the traction control is really good. The car is preforming better than I thought it would as a RWD and am not terribly concerned about winter driving.
As far as reliability...could be better...could be worse but there is probably a good chance it sees the shop.
Do it! You wont regret it!
