Default Thinking of buying a 2009 XF

Hi guys,

I found a really good condition, low mileage 2009 Jaguar XF. They look fantastic, I think. I'm super new jaguars and have very limited knowledge. Need some expert advice here. Read few reviews online, and they are mostly positive.

How are these cars when it comes to reliability?

Any known problems that I should watch out for?

I live in Montreal Canada, so we have reasonable amount of snow. How do they perform in snow?

Thanks

I was scanning through the older posts and saw no one has responded to your questions. First, welcome to the forum! Very unusual for this group not to chime in. Anyway. I have an 11 XF Supercharged with 18k plus miles. No real issues so far except the water pump was replaced. This is a known issue. Some early 09's had some problem with the shifter. If you do a search you can find some info. They perform pretty well in snow with dedicated snow tires. Snow mode dumbs down the throttle which helps on slippage. My biggest challenges are on hills with wet snow or ice. I live in central b NYand have made it through 3 winters now. It's not an suv so don't expect it to perform like one. Hopefully some knowledgeble '09 owners will chime in.

Im not sure if ill be of great help but ill chime in with a few quick words. Just over a week ago i bought my 09 XF with 50k miles that was in absolutely excellent condition. I got the car in Columbus, OH and had to drive it back home to Chicago and there happened to be a snow storm in Ohio that very day. The car does have brand new tires on it but they are by no means winter tires so my only option was to put it in that winter mode and drive extremely gently. It was definitely nerve wrecking considering it was the first time i ever drove the car and my background in cars consists fully of awd audis. Winter tires are absolutely a must because my drive back was pretty bad but it was still manageable. Previous owner had all of his regular maintenance services performed at a Jag dealer and i called them and they emailed me the entire report of the service history of the car along with carfax and the car never had a single issue so im hopeful.

Hey I recently purchased an XF as well in Akron,OH and drove it back to Virginia. Great ride and you will enjoy it!!! Mine has 68k on it and 1 owner as well. Its to early for me to tell you about issues but I tell you what.....its a great vehicle and you wont see them as much as a BMW or a Mercedes. Think about it...how many Jaguar dealerships do you actually see on an everyday basis?

Thanks very much for your responses. This definitely has made buying decision easier. It is a unique car and I hardly see them in the city.

I was planning on buying the winter tires anyways, caz our winters are long here. And driving RWD in the winter without proper winter tires is quite dangerous.

If you're not a car expert I'd definitely recommend having an independent inspection done. In general these cars are pretty reliable, but they can definitely have issues and repairs can be very expensive... So worth making sure you know what you're getting into. Would look for an initial warranty (if not a private sale) e.g. to cover issues for the first couple of months in case there are gremlins you don't discover on day 1.

Winter tyres pretty impt - I live in the NE USA now and I have them for the winter - make a big difference. But I think anyway you have to - isn't it the law in Quebec for all cars in the winter?

Good luck!

I have an 09 supercharged. Fantastic car. However a few things Ive noticed that happen to other people as well.

Dash board leather bubbling up. Mine has near the dome that houses the gauges. Not bad yet but also easy fix with an upholster apparently.

Blind spot monitoring system has gone out. I have extended warranty and they refused to fix it but Im going to try again.

Interior lights for some go on and off randomly. I had mine fixed.

I also had the tire pressure monitoring system malfunction but was fixed under warranty.

Other than those few things its been great. Those are pretty minor in my opinion. The car is fast, fun and I get a lot of compliments. Also sounds bad *** if you choose to get exhaust for it down the line.
